I have only had my H1 for about 1 week so still have loads to learn.I am probably totally missing something & looking completely dumb,so here goes! When i zoom in at approx 7 x zoom/above, the object goes out of focus. If then i switch to movie mode ,you can here the autofocus move & the focus is perfect/as normal, you are able to zoom in and out without a focus problem. Then switch back to any mode and the focus is still normal until you adjust the zoom. Putting the camera in movie mode ,then back again is the only way i can focus above 7 x zoom? Thanks keith
Very recently, we've been discussing some "macro" issues for the H1 .. Quite clear one has to respect "object to lens" distances :-) In a nutshell : from the full wide [email protected] up to [email protected], the H1 is able to lock focus from about 2cm/0.8" (maybe a bit less!) up to approx. 15-20cm/8" from [email protected] up one needs to keep distance .. ie minimal is 90cm with the macro function enabled .. without that function the distance may be more than 1 meter for proper focus lock .. .. and sometimes one observes odd behaviour .. it locks focus at a position somewhere in between the above, but it is enough to half-press the shutter a couple of times and the focus lock is gone .. weird :-)

Try to use center or spot focusing mode. In the setup menu make sure the Auto Focus mode is set to Monitor (not Continuous). Retry the half-press of the shutter button if the picture is out of focus. Let go and try again. The camera should snap into focus very quickly. Also try to focus on something with high contrast. I hope this helps.

HI, are you sure that there is no conversion lens setting activated in the setup menu? It sounds like that to me. These modes limit the ranges. I hope it will help, otherwise you will have to bring it back.
