Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC11. It might be worth checking the fuse - but it's also a good idea to wash the filters, and to check the cleaner for any blockages.

You can view a video guide demonstrating the correct way to wash the filters here:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=1936&product=DC11-SY-STD

And you can find out the best way to check for and remove blockages here:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=347&product=DC11-SY-STD

If you've tried this and the cleaner still won't turn on at all, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so one of our experts can run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you. If you're based in the UK, you can call us free on 08002980298. If you're based in the US, you can call free on 1866MYDYSON. We look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Jack

Hi, I have a question, I just got my vacuum 3 mouths ago and it shuts-off?

Your new filter should last more than a week but you may have to clean it thoroughly after each use. One problem with vacuums that do not have a bag is the surface area of the filter is usually not very big so it does not take much fine dust to clog the pores of the filter. If air can't pass through the filter the motor will get hot and shut off.

Root cyclone 12 loss of suction. How do I solve as both filters have been cleaned

Hi Pat, it's Jack at Dyson.

Performance issues are usually simple to resolve. DC11 has two filters - the 2-part pre-filter (the yellow plastic outer casing the the blue foam inner section) should be washed at least once every three months. The post-filter is engineered to last the lifetime of the machine without maintenance or replacement. If you have washed the post-filter, unfortunately this may have caused damage and we would recommend replacing it.

It sounds as if your machine has a blockage somewhere in the floor tool, wand or hose. To locate and remove this please follow the steps shown in our online support guide: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc11/dc11-sy-allergy/using-my-dyson-list/redirect-to-dc11filterwashvid/dc11filterwashvid/flo-dc11-gen-blockage-procedure6

If you'd like some further advice from our experts after you've given this a try, please call us directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

How do I replace the motor brushes in my DC11? I cannot dismantle beyond removing the pipe attachment. I've removed the 6 fixing screws that are visible, but the machine is still firmly "together" as if...

Hi,

I've never worked on a DC11 but have worked on several types of Dyson uprights. The following may or may not be relevant to the DC11 but may give you a few clues.

On the uprights I've worked on, if you remove the dust canister, underneath it is a clip-on cover with what's known as a post motor filter under it. This varies between models from a simple fibre pad, to a plastic encased paper filter very similar to the one that goes in the top of the dust canister. Having removed the clip-on cover / pad / filter, there should be a few more screws that when released will allow the motor housing to be taken apart.

The site www.dysonmedic.com is excellent, but doesn't yet cover the DC11.

Incidentally, I've just repaired my fathers DC07 which appeared at first to be a brushes problem. When I got it apart, it became obvious that the motor armature had a worsening fault whereby it was overheating so badly the over-current trip on the motor kept cutting out. The overheating was so bad that the bottom of the post motor filter was actually burnt !
Searching on eBay, I found a complete replacement motor for £18 inc p&p, but no listing for brushes. You may therefore find a) it isnt the brushes and b) you cant buy the brushes separately anyway.

Good luck !

Dyson dc11 makes a groaning sound and no suction

It is more than likely that you've caused blockage in your turbines. Plaster dust is very very fine and will have passed through your filter quite easily. It's also more than likely that the plaster dust has affected your motor.

If you turn it on and you hear popping, then motor is more than likely deceased. If you hear something like a valve releasing when you turn the machine off then there may be a blockage.

Probably best to refer to your local Dyson via www.dyson.com

Hard to say without seeing it, is there a function type knob that you would switch from carpet to hose? Did the hose attachment lid close ok? Other then take, if this is new, it has a years warranty on it, just take it to a waranty shop for repair.
