I have an hp1940 and I am wondering if anybody out there who also owns that particular model (or another in 19xx series) has faced the same problem. It seems to me that before I upgraded the original ROM (1.01) to 1.10 I was able to receive audible new e-mail notification, which I can't any more. The HP Tech Support is trying it convince me that the feature is not working "by design" - in other words it's not a bug. I find very hard to believe since there is a designated screen in the Settings -> Notifications alowing e-mail event selection with 3 options of which the the first one is the audible notification (there is also a tone galore to choose from). Whether the problem is related to the new ROM I don't know, but perhaps someone could comment on that and perhaps give me some advice.

i saw a similar topic before. but it turns out on my 1940, it is still the same old thing, the notify.wav for email notification works.

Go to settings then to notifications, then ensure that mail is in the notification centre select mail then click on your mail account and click on alerts in the alert style section and select your new mail sound which will probably be showing as none change it to whatever you want. and then close the mail window. Hope this helps.
The red light is MESSAGE WAITING. It is not necessarily VM notification. Press the MESSAGE button and look at the display. One of the soft keys will let you CLEAR the message and it will tell you where it came from. It's set by anybody calling your phone, and randomly, it is set by dialing your extension plus "4". Oops. It's a Pana mystery :-)
You received a message on the voicemail system provided by your telephone company. To hear the message, dial the voicemail number provided by your service provider (in many cases, this will be your own phone number), and follow the voice instructions for listening to your messages. You need to store the voicemail access # by pressing [MENU], [#] ,, on the handset. To access the voicemail, press [TALK], then softkey [VM]. Depending on your service provider, you may need to clear your voice mailbox to remove the notification.
On some older models, try pressing and holding the Find Headset button for five seconds; this clears the voice mail light.
Newer models are a little harder to clear. The suggestion I received from customer support was to call my own number, leave a short message in voice mail, access my voice mail and delete the message to clear the light.
