I have just purchased a Tungston E2 to replace a Tungston T2 and want to transfer the information from the T2 to the E2 but have not found a way to do this through the HotSync process. Is there a direct way to do this?

  • lynandneil Aug 31, 2008

Before instituting your advice I gave the E2 a new user name as the old user name could not be applied to the new E2.Now I can't find a way to change the user name on the E2 to be the same as the existing one on the T2

Many factors can influence synchronization. We'll take you through astep-by-step diagnosis to resolve the most common issues. If you needhelp synchronizing for the first time, see your Palm device's userguide.
These steps will work ONLY with the HotSync software provided by Palm.If you use third-party synchronization software (IntelliSync, iSync,Missing Sync, etc.), contact the third-party developer for assistance.

For more information on Hot Sync Troubleshooting, please refer:

You need to hotsync your old pda, it creates a backup of the data, then you need to change the hotsync settings so that it replaces all the contents on the pda instead of backing up. This way you will get your hotsync backup into the new pda.

Nope, there's no way to HotSync direct. Just follow coolguy008's instruction.

The easiest way to transfer data is to hotsync to a desktop PC. First, install the proper Palm Desktop and Hotsync manager software by going to http://www.palm.com/us/support/palmdesktop.html. Once the software is installed properly, connect you OLD Tugnsten to your computer by using the sync cable that came with the device. You may need to press the hotsync button on the cable that connects to your device. This will begin the hotsync process and transfer all your data from your device to your PC. Now your PC and old tungsten share the same information.

Next you need to connect you NEW Tungsten to your computer and sync to the existing username you created during installation. This will then make the PC and the NEW device share the same information. You should be done at that point and your new PDA will have the data now.

You can use Palm Desktop to add, remove, or edit any information and sync the changes to your device.

Hope that helps.................

Try first to change the user name follow this:

Changing the user name on your device and assigning a new one at the next HotSync operation may resolve certain HotSync difficulties. If you have two devices synchronizing to the same computer, they must have different user names.

    Changing your user name

On your desktop computer, launch Palm Desktop (even if you synchronize with Outlook or another application).

Select Edit Users from the drop-down list of user names.

Select the name you want to edit and click the Rename button.

The new name will be written to the handheld during the next synchronization

    Good luck.........

I want to transfer the information from palm desktop on a PC to Mac OSX. The palm tungsten e2 is water damaged and not working.

Inside the PalmOne forlder in Program Files, find a folder that is named the same as you Hotsync ID. A flash drive would be the best idea to transfer the files over to the Mac. Some flash drives don't work on Macs, so try a few.
