Acer Travel Mate 280. Kids reported / no network. I turned on the power but it gave critical Battery sound and display signal. I turned it OFF, plugged the power supply and turned it on again. Power light went on but it did not boot and their is no screen display. I removed the hard desk in suspicion and connected it to another machine and it was reading OK I attached an external monitor to the Laptop, but still NO display / NO boot. Is it mainboard ? Is it Display card? Or I could not guess!
Is it POSTing? Do parts make noise and then theres a Beep? The beep means it finished the Power On Self Test. Once it posts then it will show splash screen or black screen with it testing hard drives disk drives etc.. If no post is the led lit that says A/C is connected? before you attempt to turn on? If no post and good ac to rear connector then you probably need a new motherboard.

You can try this:
-Turn off
-Remove battery and remove ac power cable
-Hold down power button without cable and battery for 60 seconds
-Connect your power cable and push power button
Try with another monitor if possible. It may be motherboard issue or bad connectors.

It depends upon how much time you run your laptop on battery power, you can keep an eye on the battery charge level when you connect it to mains power. You do not need to keep it on mains power all the time, only when the battery level drops to a low level and needs charging. The laptop will warn you when it is low on battery power.
make sure processor fan is working fine. you may hear the sound of fan on the left side of the laptop. and make sure its not getting heat soon. If the fan is not working you need to replace the fan. If if gets heat soon that means you have to put processor cooling paste.IF the fan is working fine and the processor heat is normal, then you need to re-fix the RAM. Then it will work fine..ok
If you dont see any green lights and you dont hear any boot up sounds ( hd, fans, etc) try to take out battery and just plug in the AC adapter to a known good power outlet. Make sure your power plug is good too. If you hear boot-up sounds, see green lights but no display then toggle on the "fn" key and or try on an external monitor.
If you clear the cmos you are just loading the defalt bios settings but not solving the problem. In this case you dont have to clear the cmos but instead replace the cmos battery.
Try taking the battery out and see what happens. That could be a low battery signal. If it is got to display settings then go to screensaver click on the power button at the bottom ok go to each on of the tabs at top and find the one that has your batteries on it . Look for alarms and turn them off and then restart and see if it still happens. God Bless Greg
