How do you by-pass ignition switch on 1980 Chevy Silverado

You can't, without a bypass kit and the orginal key or resister value to use in the bypass kit. The theft system on the truck is a VATS system that uses a resister in the key that must match the resister value in the computer to start the car. No resister match, no start. The kit eliminates the resister key by hard wiring the resister permanently in the vehicle. You still will need the key to mechanically unlock the steering column and turn the ignition cylinder.

check you got power comin out of the stator wires when crankin ! check the plug cap resistance isnt too much if its a resister cap as this will reduce the spark also ! try without the cap on and hold near earth and see if it sparks ! soz not got resistance values ! check flywheel key not broken also !

How to check for spark, harley springer

Ignition Coil Primary Circuit Test
Remove the coil. THEN set your ohmmeter scale to RX1 and place ohmmeter leads on the primary coil windings A (front of coil) to B (middle of coil), B to C (front of coil) and check for primary coil winding resistance which normal resistance range is 0.5-0.7 ohms. If primary resistance is not within this range check out test results below.

Ignition Coil Secondary Circuit Test
With the ignition coil removed from the motorcycle and the ohmmeter set to the RX1K scale place the ohmmeter leads on the secondary coil windings B (middle terminal) to
R (rear secondary terminal/socket), B to F (front secondary terminal/socket) and check for secondary coil winding resistance which normal resistance range will be 5.5-7.5K ohms. If secondary resistance is not within this range check out test results below.

Test Results
A low resistance value indicates a short in the coil winding which requires coil replacement.

A high resistance value might indicate that there is some corrosion/oxidation of the coil terminals requiring the coil terminals to be cleaned and the resistance test then repeated and if after the test is repeated the resistance is still high after the terminals were cleaned the coil must be replaced.
If there is an infinite ohms or no continuity) resistance value the coil is open and must be replaced.

How do you bypass the security system on 94 Cadillac sedan deville

you need to tear down the steering wheel and get to the wires that read the value of the key resister ~~ then you need to solder in a resister of the correct value and from then on the key resister will no longer be needed.

What does it mean when I test and get a clear signal and then it fades to nothing?

Hi -

First, make sure the battery in the tester is good. If unsure of the batteries charge state, replace them (requires {4} IDEAL# 61-201,
IEC #LR44, or NEOA# 1166A) before continuing.

What you're describing sounds an awful lot like a testing of a capacitor. If you were to connect an analog ohm meter to a capacitor, the needle would indicate a very low resistance value and gradually swing to a very high resistance value. it would not take more than a few seconds to go from low to high indication. Use of a digital meter wouldn't show this very well, as the resistance value is constantly changing - rendering an actual numeric value impossible to display.

Once the resistance value has reached the high value on the meter, swap the polarity of the leads, and it should read low again - and climb to the high value once more. This will happen each time the leads are reversed.

You can view the manual here.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Width problem

Sometimes you will need to reinforce the whole circuit with new soldering metal as well. Mass produced circuitry sometimes uses very little of the stuff or uses soldering metal of poor quality.
