The simplest way is to record over the tape.
There is no delete button of any kind.

    Simply record over the existing, there is no delete button of any kind.

    Metal Evaporated tape is best used around 4-6 record cycles before drop-outs occur.

    At the price of tape it's best to keep your recordings as a backup copy.

    Hard drives will crash.

You need to install the drivers for your camcorder, before you conncet your camcorder to your PC.

The drivers are in the CD which came with your camcorder. follow these steps

1- inser the CD( If you do not have your CD go the link below to download it

)
2- select install drivers
3- after drivers are installed, Connect your camcorder to your PC, turn it on and follow the screen untill it states your camcorder is installed and ready
4- Now if you click start, then computer you should see an icon which has all or part of sony DCR-trv285. Double click on this icon. You would see one or more folders with your pictures and videos stored in it.

TRV285 E, Insert cassette msg is appearing

I also had a similar problem. There was a message appearing "re-insert the cassette". I contacted Sony India. They advised to reset the Handycam (there is a button 'Reset' under the LCD when it is closed). After doing the Reset the message disappeared and it is working fine at the moment. I also checked up a forum for the message. A lot of people having the same problem were suggesting to whack the camcorder on the cassette side. Although i did not have to resort to it.
