Losing a volume icon on the system tray is an indication that your audio driver is not installed. Installing the right audio driver for your system will solved your problem, just take a few minutes finding out your motherboard brand and then download it to the manufacturer's website

I have lost my Menu Bar and have tried going to the Control Panel

try using your menu key on your keyboard. its next to the Ctrl key, that will bring up your start menu which shuld also show the task bar. right click on the task bar and click on properties. make sure "auto hide Task bar is not checked. and lock task bar. you may also have lowered it below your view. try moving your mouse pointer down at the bottom of the screen and see if your pointer turns into an arrow., if it does hold the left mouse button and move it up untill your task bar shows.
