Hitachi Class Action Lawsuit


The law firm is HORP&B in Dallas, Tx. Website is Contact name is Victor 1-877-308-7900. Some other Hitachi TV owner on this forum started the Class Action Lawsuit and I like you just wanted to state my case and how I feel they are treating Hitachie TV owners unfairly. Even though Hitachi has denied me 4 times to send me new Optical Light Engine @ N/C because my TV is too old blah blah blah blah...... I got another email just last week from a Hitachi TV owner stating that his TV is also 4 years old and Hitachi agreed just last week to send him this new part @ N/C. They treating people unfairly and case by case but there is no set criteria to whom they are agree to send a part to and who they deny???? Their excuses are simply bogus and lame!

    50V500A purchased 24 May 2004. I have the red cloud TV repair man states LE if in need of replacement. Hitachi says set to old to far past warranty.

    I purchased my Hitachi LCD 51 inch tv in September of 2004 from Sears. It also generated a "red cloud" that started out small then grew to the size of the screen. In addition to this it began generating a yellow cloud with small black streaks and it has taken up the full screen. Now I have two colors presently. It seems like every several months a new color comes into play. It's just horrible. I have not looked into getting it repaired because I know the cost will be terribly high. Please inform me in how to get in this Class Action Lawsuit. Thank you.

    Hi; my name is Jorge N. I got tired of calling HITACHI 50V720 about this symptoms: HUGE brown spot covering almost the whole screen; it is a combination of blue and red also. Hitachi customer service said that they never hear of that problem and all they could do for me is refer me to a technician close to where I live, some experts told me that probably is the light engine. I even spoke with a Hitachi's supervisor; I tried for a few more days during the year 2008 with this peolpe denying the problem, I heard some peolple got their problem solved and I feel descriminated since how Hitachi pick wich customers to help; Im just leting my tv die little by little and watching 2800.00 dollars expended.

    I bought mine used from an individual, therefore, do not have a proof of purchase, say from Best Buy. How can I get the same service? What do they ask for? Out of warranty of course...

    So after calling in to Hitachi, they gave me the number to a local reseller that could service it. The local reseller told me that they sometimes cover it, sometimes don't, it's hit and miss. Labor around $250 to $300.

    TV has a red hue to it you can not grt rid of. the warranty guy takes 2 to 3 months to get out and fix it and it happens again all he does is re-program and does not last,

    I was told by the Hitachi rep, that he had never heard of the yellow spot problem and to get a tv service person to look at it. I purchased the tv in 04-05? and last marcthe bulb went out. It took forever to get it replaced by place I purchased the tv from. Now don't know what to do. Heard different stories... service 75.00 to come and look and have 1100,=.00 to fix from others. So, I am hurting my eyes watching my 3000.00 go out!!!! 50 flat screen V50710

    Jim, who did you talk to, because I have been on the phone with Hitachi a countless number of times and have never gotten anything out of them other than the statement that the TV is too old and out of warranty.

I have a 60 inch lcd with the red cloud, bought the tv in 04 called hitachi about it and there sending my tv repair man the light engine no cost. Everyone just needs to call them again. thanks Jim

I know and there are alot of other people out there who pay good money
can't go out and the next new model ever year.
Yes I what my TV fix and fix right and not pay for bad parts.

Have an extended warranty like me, well even though i did purchase one I still am pissed. I paid $3300 for this set 60v500a and like I suspect many the red cloud just crept up on them until it became a real nusiance. I called Hitachi first but they were unwilling to help at all and tried to tell me it was the bulb, thank god for the internet or I might of believed them (-$400 out of pocket because warranty doesn't cover bulbs). Went to the lawfirms website and sent an email to add me to the many names in the lawsuit hopefully will hear back from them. Was pissed to find out that the repair shop is going to replace the light engine with a refurbished part. Didn't buy a refurbished TV but get a refurbished part well will be keeping a close eye on any red clouds in the future considering I still have a year and a half left on the warranty and will be complaining of any problems. For all others I will be asking the repair man if this is a common problem to share with others. I hope the lawyers hold Hitachi responsible for this, got a lotta nerve selling defective junk to consumers but corporate greed knows no bounds i guess.

i have repeated this info on every forum i have found whith the applicable problem, hopefully if enough people join in and spread the word we can do something about this, i for one am sick of getting taken by big companys, keep spreading the word as will i thanks for getting back to me

Join the class action lawsuit at by filling out their questions on the right side of the home page. I saw a thread where someone else had a very similar issue and started a class action.

I then called customer relations back and let them know I joined a class action suit and asked them to add it as a note to my file.

It's not a solution but perhaps a way to have them change their policy.

More than likely, you need a new light engine. It's not the same as the lamp. It's a $1500 part that until recently, Hitachi was covering for free regardless if you were still under warranty or not. They've stopped taking care of their customers due to the number of us that have had this same problem.

You can give it a shot and call their customer relations department at 800-654-7013 and see what they tell you. They replaced our light engine back in November and if you reference Hitachi 50v500 on this website, you will see all of the upset folks that are now being told "too bad".

Wish I had better news. The only way to know for sure that the problem is the light engine is to call a certified Hitachi dealer in your area or the store you bought the set from and have them come out. Wish I had better news!

I recently had the same problem. You need to contact Hitachi (1-800-448-2244) and advise them of the issue. Hitachi will give you a local service contact who will look at your TV and advise you that the light engine needs replacement. Afterwards, you need to call Hitachi back and speak with a customer service Rep. They replaced the part (I was quoted $530) but I had to pay labor and service (($370). If your TV is 12-18 months you should be able to get them to cover both. Based on the service rep that fixed mine, he indicated he has replaced about 40 of these since late 2007. Mine was replaced last week and now I have a different issue, a bright blue pixel light. Now it's round 2 with the service department. I have not been impressed with Hitachi's customer service considering I spent $3200 on this TV 3 years ago. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

This is usually not a repair a layman is able to do
as the ammount of plugs and wiring that go with it.
also the tubes have to be set up after installation .
The actual problem may be the red driver transistor or a cold solder joint.
I recommend a tec. to repair it.

They will NOT give you a refund, they will NOT swap units with you. you're stuck... I've yet to hear of a class action lawsuit... and quite frankly their little lawyers covered their behinds on this one... So sorry.

i would like to note that on the 80 gig units they did change the layout so screen breakage isn't from the battery anymore

Go to, look under the service icon at the top and then you should see a listing for "Class Action Lawsuit/Settlement". If you follow that link, they'll have specifics listed for this suit that was brought against them (including tv model #s included in the suit). There was an agreement reached to fix/replace affected t.v.s, court date was in Feb. I believe, and just waiting now until they post information on how to proceed.
