It's most likely the trigger not engaging the piston that releases the steam. Due to the fact that the plastic inside the 220 holding the trigger in place has cracked on both sides. It will need to be taken apart. That's another issue.Be easy on the trigger press down gentle.....

SOURCE: my steamer will not spray

There are different possible solution to your problems. You might figure it out by yourself when you follow these instruction.

1. A build-up or clogged in your steamer resulted from the minerals deposit in your steamer. These are possible solutions (a) clogged with rust or limescale - try a limescale remover in distilled water such as Calgon limescale remover. Fill the kettle as normal and give it time to boil up. Then release the steam as you would normally. You may find that the kettle will spurt out deposits of gunk. (b) clogged sprayer - put some vinegar and mix it with mineral water and let it set for a day.

2. A build up or corrossion in the brass button. Take the steamer apart.
Remove screw, take off cover. Pull up rubber ring around hole. Remove 2 screws. Remove 2 screws on front round spout. Remove round spout ring. Lift up on black piece on top with trigger attatched..Now you see what the trigger pushes against. It is a little brass knob. That knob is a shaft that goes through the hole you fill in; and then has a spring on the nozzle end if you would look in the nozzle hole. Spray limeaway on the brass knob end. Then spray Limeaway in the nozzle end where the spring is If you look in the filler hole; you will see the rod going across it. Spray limeaway onto the rod where it goes back through the metal to the brass side. You might have to hold the scunci sideways so the Limeaway can work. Put the Limeaway in a small dish and used a qtip to saturate the rod. Let this soak a few minuites. Then hit the brass knob end with a childs hammer. This will force the knob (rod) to gointo the metal holding it. Then I went on the spout end a used the end of a tooth brush as a rod to pound the rod back in the other direction. Try this tapping n both directions a few times. Keep adding Limeaway to the shaft on both ends.Rod will be loosed and just using your finger you could push the button very easy. Seems my water is very hard and causes calcium to build up from the steam.

Good luck

My compact steamer does not let the steam out when I press the black release button help?

I examined mine. There is literally NO hole in the steam wand for the steam to exit. It's a wonder the thing didn't blow up. Take it back and be glad you still have your face.

Hoover twin tank handheld steamer WH20100

Step 1 - How It Works
A garment steamer is a hand held device. Water is placed in the tank and is heated until it becomes steam. The steam is directed at pressure through a nozzle to the garment. The heat relaxes all the fibers in the garment, which eliminates the wrinkles in the clothing.
Step 2 - Preparation
Put cold water in the water tank of the handheld steamer. Check to ensure all the parts are properly connected. Turn the device on and allow the garment steamer to heat until steam forms.
Step 3 - Shirts
Put the shirt on a hanger. You should button the collar and a couple of buttons below it. To make life as easy as possible, hang the shirt from something that will easily let you reach all around it-a shower curtain rail is ideal for this.
Steam from the bottom of the shirt, moving upward. Direct the steam at the material and pay particular attention to the collar area. After you've finished, let the shirt hang for a minute before putting it in the closet. This will allow the dampness to air out.
Step 4 - Dresses And Skirts
Dresses and skirts can be made of many different types of fabric, with different printing, so special care is needed with these. Where the material itself is delicate, such as silk or velvet, make sure that the nozzle of the garment steamer never directly touches the material.
Where clothing has been embroidered or screen-printed you should turn the item of clothing inside out and steam that side instead. That way there's no risk of damaging the print or embroidery, and the wrinkles will still disappear. When you've finished, give the clothing a minute for the dampness to fade, turn right side out and hang in the closet.
Step 5 - Heavier Material
Where you're steaming a heavier material, you might well find that it needs several steamings before all the wrinkles go. As an alternative to this you can also use the garment steamer on the inside and the outside of the piece of clothing.
Step 6 - Water Level
Check the water level in the tank after each item of clothing. This way there will be no danger of the water running low. If you let the water run out you can end up damaging the garment steamer. On the other hand, if you put too much water in the tank, all that will come out will be water, not steam.
Step 7 - Other Uses
A garment steamer is surprisingly versatile. You can also use it on drapes, upholstery and even wigs. Many people pack travel size garment steamers when they go on trips.

The steam will cool very rapidly and it is possible that yes you can place your hand in front of it... if it wasn't a steam vapor it would not spray out....
