Pretty simple operation...here's an overview of the component locations:

how to remove water pump ge front loader washing - chris_in_ma_4.jpg
Remove the 3 screws at the bottom of the front panel. Lift panel out at the bottom and it should fall down. Discharge pump is on the right-hand side. Simply disconnect the hoses from: 1) the tub and from 2) the outbound discharge hose. Then remove all screws holding the pump in place. The electrical is a quick-connect adapter.

Save yourself a mess by draining the assembly first -- just follow the instructions for draining/cleaning the filter in the Use & Care manual

Where?s the filter on my GE WSXH208A Front Loader? Thank you beltronic205 (GE WSXH208A Front Loader won?t drain). I drained the tub by lowering the drain hose as suggested. But where is the filter, what...

There is no acutal filter on this unit...You cab remove the back panel to access the drain pump ...Or tilt the washer back and access it from the bottom...Remove the drain hose from tub to drain pump...(careful of flow of water from tub)...Check the hose for any blockage...If no blockage then your pump is bad..

GE washing macine stops during the wash cycle

This is exactly what my machine was doing, as well. I fixed it by cleaning out the filter in front of the water pump.

Searching here, I found that you can remove the lower front panel (three screws along the bottom edge is all it takes) to get to the filter. With the panel removed, you'll see a round white plastic cover (about 3-4 inches diameter) that screws out. Get a bucket under the cover to catch the water that's in it (could be 2 quarts or more) and unscrew the cover.

The cover pulls out, revealing that is actually a screw-in plastic strainer. I found tons of coins, broken pens, paper clips, etc. in mine when I did this. A lot will be deep inside the black rubber hose that connects this filter housing to the washer drum. You can rake the stuff out with a bent wire clothes hanger. Shaking the black hose will help hurry the junk along and out of your machine. Screw the cover back on after the clean out and your machine should go back to normal.

Thinking about it, front loaders will have lots of small items flushed into the pump compared to top loaders. Coins you alway found in the bottom of the drum in a top loader, they all wind up in the filter of a front loader. And once it slow the drainage to a crawl the machine will shut down multiple times when it can't drain the water out completely, and it will never step up to it's max spin speed with all that water still in the drum.

How do I drain the outer tub of my washing machine?

If you own a wet/dry shop vac this can take about 5 minutes. Pull the drain hose from the stand pipe at the wall and pull a vacuum using the shop vac. These front loaders usually only hold about 5 to 7 gallons when full.

If you do not own a shop vac, you will need to access the drain pump and either remove one of the drain lines, or remove the clean out trap cover on the drain pump (if equipped). You will need a lot of extra towels to catch all the water. This can be a messy method to use.

If you need further assistance, please post back with your brand name and model number. All front loaders are not designed the same and this makes it much easier to diagnose. I hope this helps you.

My GE front loader does not drain

Look for the pump, take the hoses off it and check for clogs. Have a bucket ready to catch the water. Watch the pump while the machine is running, make sure it is spinning.

Water wont drain /wont spin out

  • assuming it is a top loader
  • it sounds like something is stuck in the water pump.
  •  if the water does not drain then it will never spin.
  •  take off the front panel (with a butter knife, push in the two metal clips in the front seam between the top panel and the front panel. this will release the front panel from the machine.
  • the water pump is located on the right side in the front.
  • before removing the hoses attached to the water pump get as much water out of the machine as possible so it does not spill on the floor.
  •  then take off the hoses and check inside the pump thoroughly; even a string might cause the pump to get stuck.
  • let me know if you need more help
