We have a Toshiba Projection TV, Model # 43H71 that started with the green vertical lines and I was needed to try and find a way to fix this television versus buying a new one. It is probably 10 to 15 years old....everything else works fine but do need to replace the remote... any suggestions?

SOURCE: Toshiba 43H71 - remote sensor not working

The sensor is not the only fault that can cause the remote control to not work. The sensor is only one part of the circuits involved.

Between the sensor, there may be buffer amplifier stage, and then there is the main uPC.

What we do is send a remote IR data signal to the sensor, and on the circuit board in the set I follow the data signal along its path using a scope in reference to the service diagrams to see where the data loss is.

Personaly, I would not blindly buy a new sensor based on a guess without doing the proper tests.

SOURCE: 10 yr old TOshiba rear

This sounds like poor solder connections at the vertical IC. If this is corrected soon, there will be no other problems. If left as is, the IC will eventually fail. If you can solder, you can fix this yourself. Look for a small flat IC with about 11 pins attached to a heat sink. It will be marked LA7837 or something similar. If you post the model number, I can give you the exact part marking.

Kep me posted.

SOURCE: my Toshiba 43H71 43 in.

I have a similar Toshiba 42H83 that wiggles like crazy. It started two years ago and keeps getting worse. It first started at the top of the screen and later worked its way down and now the whole screen wiggles.

When I called support they said the part would be around $500 as it is soldered to the inside components and therefore cannot be easily switched out. No onsite technician can do a soldering repair so the TV would need to be brought in or shipped to them.

Considering the cost of the repair being just under half of what I paid for the new unit I did not pursue the repair further.

SOURCE: Toshiba 43H71 Power indicator light flahsing

Bad news folks,
GIVE IT UP! I have just spent 4 hours researching parts for my 43H71 and they are NOT AVAILABLE so even if someone can tell you whats wrong, nobody can fix it. I called TO-SHITBA and asked them, they referred me to 2 suppliers, that are Toshiba parts distributors. They can't even supply a whole motherboard!! All I am looking for is the 3.95 ohm resistor (which by the way is probably what wrong with yours to) that is located right where the power comes into this model, its has a tolerance of .5% that's right a half of a percent. It is not made and you can not buy one, so out of curiosity I asked of they had the WHOLE motherboard........guess what? NO! So don't waste your money taking it to the shop, cause these people are the SHOP SUPPLIERS! I am going to buy a 3.9 ohm resistor with a 5% tol.(five) if it works I will let everyone know. I have nothing to loose at this point, even if it fries the rest of the TV set.......If you are a techie, and have an OHM meter, take the back off and chck yours. Mine is a complete OPEN, I would be curious what yours reads. With that low of a resistance it shout read almost as a short........NOT an OPEN

The tv has red images, I cannot get the red convergence line vertically to straighten, it is squiggly, the horizontal is straight, and the blue and green lines are both okay

the 43h71 has a pair of convergence ics that commonly go bad and cause this problem. replace original stk392-110 with stk392-120. the upgrades have a collector rated at 4 amps vs the 110's 3 amps and should be more reliable.

also know that they hyperboard in this set can cause squiggly lines throughout but will not affect the convergence.

43H71 43 in

Look up and read about the convergence amplifiers on this website. I just helped a friend repair his 53H71. We replaced the STK392-110 IC's on the signal board. The shop quoted him $400 for the repair. We replaced them for $35. If you're not comfortable soldering then this might not be a good repair for you to try. Good luck.

Vertical Red/Green lines

You have bad connections on the board and need to be resoldered or the convergence IC's are bad. If you know how to solder on solid state elctronics then you can change the IC's or find a bad connection on the board if you know the High Voltage issues when working on a TV set. If you have to training on TV sets I highly recommend that you call a service person to assist you in this repair.
