Try to google for your cam model and read the necessary reviews from people that posses a similar model. Also, go on forums related to your cam model and learn from other people experience in order to shorcut the eefort to learn your cam and use it at its most . If you have the cam manual, its a good start to learn the features. Also, try to get on photo techniques sites and learn the art of taking good pics. Profiency comes in time and always by testing. So, my advice, play with the cam :) Cheers
Webcams are flaky, esp when using yahoo. Off the top of my head, I dont recall if your pc has a built in internal cam. A good thing to try is simply rebooting the PC and restarting the webcam. If that doesnt help, check the cam manufacturers site to see if the driver needs to be updated. Lastly, it might not be the cam after all. It could be the program that's using the cam, such as yahoo or MSN or whoever. Restart the machine first (thats likely gonna fix it), but if it still fails, try using the windows camera scanner option to snap a pic. If you can snap a pic, the hardware is ok, and you have a software issue. If however you try all of these things and still have failure, then you could have a bad USB cord (external cam) or a bad camera cable (internal built in cam). If you are under warranty, call Dell to have a tec sent out to replace your internal cam.
If you download MSN your web cam will be active (as long as you dont have the setting to hide your cam from other users) you can also go into your photo gallery and import a pic from a camera or scanner it will show you the camera to select and take the photo . Hope this was usefull . What do you want to use your cam for
there is 2 ways to transfer/download pics from cam to pc (i) the USB connection and (ii) by memory card all you ned is to get the memory stick of your cam and attach it to a card reader and your card reader to a USB port of your PC that way you can download pics from your cam to PC. if still cant understand check this video...

i hope i was able to help you with your problem. gud luk!
This is not necessarily a one shot fix all, but, I would kind of relate this either to an overheating issue or a BIOS/North Bridge error. I would look up a good CD-booting diag software like Eurosoft's PC Check. do a full diagnostic of all your hardware, including the USB ports. You can also attempt to download more recent software from the webcam's manufacturer. Another simple check is to try someone elses cam on your pc to see if the same problem exists. It could be something as simple as the software you are using your cam on.
you have to create seperate photo albums and folder names. the the camera labels your pictures 1 2 3 and so on. so when those numbers come up again they are overwritten with the new info. so to avoid this...create one folder.(main)... then open that folder and create a new (sub)folders within the main folder for every download hopefully 10 or so more pictures at a time per sub folder....name the sub filders according to the content or, the current date which they were downloaded. what works well with myspace is photobucket.com your personal picture storage online for free. but til then the simple way is to keep this main folder in my pictures...most sites assume your pics are already there. it is the default directory with your msp,s(myspace pik's) ready to upload.
