Hi,I had a problem transfering an 8gb file from my pc to my external hdd. Someone suggested formating the hdd and changeing the setting to take on bigger files. I've done this and I've now been able to copy the file to my external hdd. The problem it that my media player now doesnt recognise the external hdd when I plug it in(but my pc does recognise it). I also deleteed the folder(during formatting) that was on the drive when I bought it. Could this be the problem? Please help me.Thanks

Around 4 gb ?
In the Microsoft Windows operating system, you can copy and paste 5 GB files as long as you have enough disk drive space.

The disk drive to which you're pasting the file must be formatted using the New Technology File System (NTFS), which supports the copying and pasting of very large files.

Purchase a large capacity USB external hard disk drive from a reputable vendor.
Make sure that the hard disk drive is at least 100 GB.

Connect the external hard disk drive to a spare USB port in your computer. Wait for the Windows operating system to recognize the hard disk drive.

Double-click on the "Computer" icon on the Windows Desktop, after which a window will appear listing all of your disk drives. Establish the letter of the new hard disk drive you have just installed. For the purpose of this article, the drive letter is assumed to be "E."

Right-click on drive "E," click on "Format," change the file system to "NTFS," then click on the "Start" button. Wait for the process to complete.

Click on the 5 GB+ file to select it, then press "Ctrl" + "C" on your keyboard to copy the file to the Windows Clipboard.

Click on the "Computer" icon on the Windows Desktop, then double-click on the "E" drive. This will open the root folder of the hard disk drive in the same window.

Press "Ctrl" + "V" on your keyboard to paste the 5 GB+ file from the Windows Clipboard to the new hard disk drive. Wait for the process to complete, which will take several minutes.

When e-mailing or archiving huge files, it sometimes helps to cut them into smaller pieces.
Fast File Saw & Joiner does exactly that, and puts the pieces back together, too.

When i plug my usb external hard drive in, it does not even show that there is a usb drive

If your Ext. HDD has been formatted in NTFS the TV might not detect it. Transfer the files on to a PC then reformat the HDD in FAT32. Then reload the movies , most probably the TV will read the files.

I have an iomega eGo portable hard drive - i am able to load my music and files onto it from my pc - but when I plug it into my android superpad tablet, it tells me its damaged and that i need to reformat...

What is the format system for the external HDD? Is it NTFS or FAT?

If it is formatted on a PC then it might be NTFS and android will not recognise NTFS. You might have to plug it back into the pc and change the format system by reformatting the external HDD in FAT32 or exFAT.
To format the HDD (Hard disk drive) plug it into windows and when it appears on the screen (This Pc or My Computer screen) next to your C: drive, right click the HDD and select format and when the format window opens select the "File system" drop down menu and change it from NTFS. Then format it and plug it into your tablet to test it.

My coputer is working very slowly.

It may cause of some reasons. But pay attention to these notes:
1.Maybe Your Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is full,So Remove some useless staffs from your hard drive.Or if you want them I suggest you to buy an External HDD and Transfer them on External HDD and keep them safe.
2.Many Computers runs slow because of viruses, so I suggest you STRONGLY to Install a powerful Anti virus, Update it and scan your computer.(The activation of viruses, trojans and worms is cause of this problem)
3.Use some Optimize software to fix and repair your Registery, HDD and etc... These software are different and you can provide them easily.like Symbian Products
4.If your Hardwares are old, you should upgrade them.Consult about this subject with Experts.
5.Totally, I suggest you to get a back up from your Files and folders, and Format your HDD and re-install your OS, Don't forget ANTI-VIRUSE
Good luck

Can't write onto HDD

This seems like a driver confliction. i suggest you re install the driver sets that came with this unit. it should be a disk that came with the HDD. Use this disk and reinstall all software. this should fix this issue. I would also defrag the main on board hard drive as well. Sometimes, this simple tool will fix this issue as well.

Help retrieving files from simpletech 320gb hard drive!

I have to admit I haven't used a Mac since high-school, but I can tell you that my first thought on this problem was "file system".

Most external HD's are formatted to be used on a Windows PC, and many are even formatted as NTFS. If this is the case, last I heard anyways, Mac OS doesn't support NTFS.

My suggestion is to use either machine to format the external HD (**you will lose all data on it**) as a neutral file system. By that I mean one which will work on both operating systems.

I could be wrong about this, and Mac OS may support NTFS, but if that's the case somone will be kind enough to correct me.

Since it doesnt sound like you have a special external firewire hdd recorder that can direct connect to the camera, you gotta capture it with your pc and send it to your hdd after. Watch out that most of those hdd are set (partitionned) as they cant transfer file bigger than 4.xx gig... (You can usually set file recording from your pro capture software that built multiple file no more bigger than 4 gig per file...
