Have a app 3 month old Toshiba Satellite 655D S5120 and it got viruses. I need to reinstall Win7 back tot he factory box state but I didn't create any DVD's. I thought there was a hidden partition and I could access it, but I see no way too. Some I can't access it from the desktop, nor from the F8 key options. Nor does holding down the 0 key work at startup. Why can't Toshiba get all their computers to go to the restore screen the same way? Anyhow, how do I access the hidden restore partition upon startup for this computer?

I have a toshiba satellite L645D how can I format it to the factory settings like it just came out of the box.

When your Toshiba Satellite laptop goes on the fritz, there are several instances where the best solution is to delete everything and start over. If your system frequently crashes or you can't remove a specific virus, you may want to restore the laptop back to original factory settings. While the easiest way to restore the system is to use the operating system restore disc, it is possible to restore the system without it. Each Satellite laptop also includes a hard drive recovery utility that lets you restore the operating system without the restore disc.

1.Take account of any files or programs you still want to use after the Toshiba laptop is restored back to its factory settings. Transfer the files to a backup location, such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive.

2.Restart the Toshiba Satellite laptop's operating system. Wait for the Toshiba logo to appear on the screen.

3.Press the key that brings up the hard drive disk utility menu. Depending on the specific model of your Toshiba Satellite laptop, the key will either be "0," "F1," or "F8."

4.Press "1" or click "Restore Original Factory Image." Click "Yes." Select "Next" to begin the restoration process.

5.Restart the Toshiba laptop computer when the restoration process finishes running. Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to set up the laptop's date, time and language settings.

6.Transfer the backup copies of the data you saved earlier back to the Toshiba's hard drive. Re-install any programs you need, such as your software firewall or anti-virus tool.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thanks.

Hi i have this satellite r630-155 and i think it got hit by a virus. I dont see any recovery cd with the box. How will i reformat it? Thanks!

Depending on what kind of problems the virus is causing, you have a few different options.

If the virus has only wreaked havoc on the operating system, you can reinstall it. Toshiba laptops do not come with a recovery CD. Instead, Toshiba provides a way for you to restore the computer's OS to its original factory settings through the boot menu. The details on how to do this for your make and model can be found here: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm

If the virus has somehow managed to prevent you from getting as far as the boot menu, or if the virus has destroyed the Toshiba factory settings backup, then you will need to contact Toshiba and have them replace the operating system. If you are under warranty, this will be of no cost to you.
