I'm lending my son my F707 for a few weeks and he's having trouble getting his brand new Toshiba notebook to recognize it when connecting through the USB port. Could it be an issue of the new computer being USB 2 and the camera USB 1. He tried it with installing a driver and without. He didn't want to buy a card reader because he's just borrowing the camera. Anyone have any ideas?
Thank you.
Susan

Re:
Has he checked the USB port on the PC by plugging another USB device into it?
Has he checked the XP device manager to see that the camera hasn't been hijacked as "Other device"?
Has he checked the camera and its cable by plugging them into someone else's 2000/XP computer? (2000/XP don't need drivers for cameras and flash disks.)
just some thoughts

Re:
I'm assuming his laptop is windows XP? I know for my computer XP lists my f717 as a romovable drive in "my computer" ..I then just drag the files into whatever folder in the hard drive and it automatically copies them..if it is windoews XP have him open up my computer and see if the removable drive is listed..

Hi, You have to know if the WiFi at home is “N” Network... What you have in your Toshiba is “G”... You will have to buy an “N” wireless USB Adapter… Salim
if u can try a new idea, get a USB sound card adaptor for $1 from Ebay....search google
connect it to the USB port and connect ur speaker to the sound jack in that...
drivers wont fix the jack problems, yes you can get usb audio devices, i would get one with a jack outlet connected the the usb device so u can have sound on the go also, I think they even have a wireless usb with wireless speakers also.
New hard drives need to be formatted! So go into the control panel switch to classic view, ( if you are still using category view for the control panel ) open administrative tools, then open computer management. Next open disk management. In disk management your new drive will show as raw, you will be give the option of formatting the drive, select primary partition and format in NTFS.
This will then format the drive, when this has finished your new drive will appear in my computer.

Sounds like the CCD has developed a fault. I had a F717 which had similar faults but this turned out to be a batch of faulty CCD's which I know the F707 shared. This maybe why Sony are not keen to get involved as it will cost them money. JVC had a similar problem with some of it's Camcorders using a similar CCD and they replaced them FOC even those well out of warranty. Keep trying with Sony and mention the CCD and serial number of the F707 and see if it is one of the faulty batch.
I bought a Lexar 256MB, since the F707 can't use PRO or anything about 128mb, it has two 128mb on one stick. There's a switch on the stick to change it when the first 128mb is full.
