I need to replace the paddles on the inside of the drum - is this a difficult job to do - if not i will go ahead and order the parts myself as an engineer call out is to expensive

Hi if you let me know what make & model washer you have I will let you know if its a easy fix or not some paddles you can fit yourself easy some you should not try

The drum paddles are screwed from the outside of the bowl. To access them, you have to completely strip the machine and remove the wash bowl. The paddles are rarely available as a spare part. You may be able to repair it or remove it. This will affect the wash action to a certain extent if you take it out. Its a big job.
They are connected to the drum which means you have to disassemble down to the drum and remove and clean. Its a major job so not sure you would want to tackle.

if its loose you may need to replace it, they are available as a spare
part and come with instructions. you will need to varify which version
you have by counting the bumps on the end of the padle, should be 2 or
3.
basically you put a small screwdriver down on of the holes in the top
of the paddle, i think the 3rd one, to push the metal drum tab down
enough to be able to pull the paddle towards you and out of it's slots.
carefull not to push the tab down too far as it will bend inside the
drum and isd pain to bend back again.
To fit new paddle,line up the lugs on the paddle in the slots in the drum, and push firmly with both hands towards the rear of the drum, you should feel it click into place, make sure you fit it the correct way round.

I recommend first of all ordering a repair manual. Or at least see if the parts come with detailed instructions on how to take out the old and install the new. You will probably have to replace the entire outer drum assembly. It's much more expensive in parts to do it that way than to just replace the bearings and seals, but much much easier and faster. Personally, I've replaced the entire drum assembly and also tried to replace just the bearings and seals. In the end I wasted the money on the bearings and seals and got an new assembly. I'd recommend just going for the new assembly and saving time.
