I experience same problem with my same printer in my printer and what we do is just pull the power cord and restart it and amazingly it starts printing but after problem remains.
I don't know what is causing the problem?

Error numbers in the thirties on this family of machines mean that either the printhead carrier is unable to slide back and forth, or it can, but the machine can't detect it. There are several possible causes, some of which are fairly easy, once you get the top cover under the scanner off.
Lift up the scanner section and look at the top of the printer section underneath. There are two skinny covers snapped into the main cover, hiding cables from the scanner. Each cover has a few small slots in it for you to insert a small, flat screwdriver to unsnap the hooks that hold the covers. Lift them out and study the routing of the cables before disconnecting them. It pays to take a few notes. One of the covers also blocks the removal of the support that's holding up the scanner. Disconnect that support so you can raise the cover higher. Unplug the cables and remove screw that holds a ground wire, and ease everything out of their channels. Now you can raise the scanner to just the right angle (probably vertical) and slide the scanner backwards off its hinges. Set it aside.
The top cover is held on by several screws. Remove it. I believe there are at least two types of screws used; take notes.
If you're lucky, you might find a wad of paper blocking the head travel, and pulling it out might fix everything. Or you may have a bad motor, bad cable, broken drive belt, bad power supply or main board. But the paper scrap is more likely.
The machine has a thin strip of film running across the printer area. It's gray with very thin lines that a sensor detects as the head travels back and forth. The machines keeps track of where it is at all times by counting those lines. If it can't count the lines, it panics and throws an error code. Sometimes the film strip gets lifted out of its sensor slot by a paper jam. If it's stretched flat across the top of the printhead, gently lift it and drop it into its slot, and you'll be back in business. If the strip is badly ink-stained, clean it gently with a cotton swab soaked in water. Use long strokes to avoid piling concentrations of ink into spots, and don't leave any lint behind. If the film strip is broken or badly scratched, you may be out of luck.
Over on the right is the section where the head normally parks and seals its nozzles. Slide the head over there by hand and check that its not blocked by a malfunction in that section. Might as well leave it there; you need to get those nozzles covered before they dry and clog.
Put the cover back on and follow your notes about screws and cables. Try it out. Good luck.
Caveat: My info here is based on a few MFC 420s, not the -465. I think they're basically the same machine with a few different features, but if what you find under the hood is completely different from what I described, well, that's what I get for assuming something.

Any of the 30 series errors say that the carriage is not free to move from side to side across the paper. You need to look close on each side of the machine where the carriage travels to see if there's a paper scrap stopping it. Also the encoder strip could be out of the slot in the carriage assembly. If all is OK you need a shop repair to determine if the logic or carriage pcb's are OK.

Hello there
I think this is down to a bit of paper sticking some where, it worth a try anyway.
This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you.
Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.
First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.
If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.
And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.
Also clean The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, Caonon and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.
That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.
So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.
Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Hi,
That error 36 - means "Head/carriage unit travel error" , if the printer is still under warranty, have it serviced. But if its out of warranty try to find any obstacles on the travel path of the head/carriage unit. If you cant find anything, it only means you need to replace some parts.
1. carriage PCB
2. head/carriage unit
3. CR encoder strip
4. carriage motor
5. main PCB
6. power supply PCB
7. maintenance unit
