How can I get my computer to recognize the printer w/o the installation cd?
I tried downloading the driver, but it can't even find the printer. I have run a search for x1270 installation software, but so far nothing. Any ideas?
thx,

The driver is a set of "directions" which gives the hardware (in this case your printer) directions on what to do and when. You can do it one of three ways.
Plug the printer into your computer and when new hardware is recognized by your computer, depending on the operating system, it will install the drivers stored in a Windows folder currently on your computer.
Plug the printer into your computer and when new hardware is recognized
by your computer it will prompt you with a new window to install the drivers and then either direct the computer to find the drivers on your computer (if you have them in a file from a download) or on the Install CD and proceed to install them.
Insert install CD in the CD/DVD ROM and if it doesn't open on its own, click on MY COMPUTER then CD/DVD Drive (probably D or E drive) and click on install.
no my riend , is your computer who has to recognize your printer by installing the printer's driver. Use the sodtware Cd who came with your printer and install it in your computer . it will works very good. if you don't have that Cd go online and download one. Thank you
go online to compaq or hp and look up your printer , look for drivers and software download it to desktop click it and folow step by step ant it will work fine, even thow you don't have a cd rom... good luck sawdust46
You said: "My cd for the printer is not recognized when i put it in the e drive",,,,it sounds like you have more problems than just installing printer software. But you may want to download and install Firefox it's a way better, more secure web browser that you can use to cruise the internet and download with. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
then you need to get your CD player working to install that software, or go to the Lexmark web site and download the drivers you need.
