Disconnect all speaker connections and rca cables. Leave power, ground and remote wires intact. Try turning on again. If you still have a protection light your amp is faulty. Hopefully you have warranty. Double check your connections. A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if this answer is helpful to you.

Disconnect all the wires except the three main power wires, ground, 12v battery and remote. Now, turn on your radio, if the protect light is still on then there's an internal short in the amp. If the light turns green, then there's a short in either the auxiliary cables or the speaker outs. If it turns green, then troubleshoot the other wires that plug into the amp by connecting them one at a time until the protect light comes on, which will tell you that there's a problem with that speaker/aux wire.

Check the impedance of the speaker to be sure that it matches the output of the amp. Common error on this detail can cause the amp to overheat and shutdown/protect.

My protection light flashes from green to red even while theres no speakers or rca wires connected

check how good your earth connection is, you may need to scrape of some paint beneath it to get a good connection, kicker amps draw a lot of power so good cable connections are a must. If the earth connection is clean, maybe try thicker cable to allow higher current.

Kicker impulse 254 amp red light on top?

1st check all of your wiring, make sure the remote wire is hooked up, check to see it the RCA's are hooked up. I know this sounds stupid, but i've done it a thousand times, check to see if you hooked up the speakers. If you checked all of those and still nothing, double check your ground. Make sure where you have it grounded, you have all the paint sanded away and its a good grounding point. The red light on the top of the amp, its not a protection light is it??

Hello. My Kicker kx200.4 is acting funny. The red display light on front/top of the amp is turning on for a second and then turning off, repeatedly. The light on the side (power) is also turning on, red...

the amp is a 200 Watt by 4 im guessing and its doing that because its going into protection mode unhook the subs if it stops then 1 you have a bad sub or 2 the subs are too much for the amp if an amp is rated 200w per chanel its 200 max about 75 rms or 75 normal constant power

Kicker amo in my old vette

If the amp is in protect mode, it probably has shorted output transistors. To eliminate other possible problems, do the following.

With your multimeter set to DC volts, the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amp (not on the point where the ground wire connected to the vehicle) and the head unit on (so the amp will have remote voltage applied), touch the red lead alternately to the B+ and remote terminals of the amp. If the voltage drops below ~11 volts, you need to check the wiring feeding whichever line is dropping too low when the amp goes into protect.

If the voltage is OK, you need to check the speaker wiring and the speaker(s). Try it with a known good speaker if possible to see if the amp works normally.

Power Protection Circuit (SORT) Engaged

Umm a ohm meter would help you here. Double check the wires from the sub to the amp...make sure its not shorting out. Try starting the amp without the wires on the terminals...if the protection shows up then there is a short inside the unit and it will need to be replaced/repaired.
