Why does pocket mirror trawl through all items when synchronising a calendar
I have a user with a Palm Zire71, we use Outlook2002 & the user's mailbok in on an exchange server in NY. We are in London. Each time the Palm is synched, pocket mirror goes through every item in the calandar. Each sync takes around 20 mins. What's going wrong?

Copied from the chepura site:
These abbreviations indicate a certain type of synchronization.
1. "Forced Recovery Sync" or "–RS" indicates a Recovery Synchronization. This will occur in the following instances:
* It is the very first synchronization.
* There was an error during the previous synchronization.
* The "Category/Folder" setting has been changed.
* The Root Folder has been changed.
* A record count mismatch occur has occurred.
* The "Handheld Priority" has been changed.
* The User Name has been deleted from Chapura Settings.
2. The "–SS" indicates a Slow Synchronization or Slow Sync. Note: A Slow Sync is necessary and does not indicate a problem with synchronization. A Slow Sync will occur in the following instances:
* If you synchronize your handheld at one PC and then synchronize it at another PC, the first time you sync at the second PC it will do a Slow Sync.
* The first sync after changing the HotSync action from "Do Nothing" to "Synchronize" the files.
* The option to synchronize every so many days has been selected.
* The first sync after a synchronization that failed.
3. The "Update Sync" will occur when the following changes have been made in "Chapura Settings":
* The Location Delimiter has been changed.
* The Meetings prefix, "Mtg:" has been added to meetings that have attendees in Outlook.
* Private Items are filtered.
* The settings for the Transfer of Alarms has been changed.
4. The "–HP" indicates that your synchronization option was set to "Handheld Overwrites PC".
5. The "-PH" indicates that your synchronization option was set to "PC Overwrites Handheld".
6. The "HH" you see during a synchronization indicates the software is reading items from the handheld.
7. The "OL" you see during a synchronization indicates the software is reading items from Outlook.
These are only informational messages and do not indicate there was a problem during the synchronization.

Re:
The HotSync software on the Mac was never designed to cope with the scenario where you synch with a PC elsewhere. It assumes that you are performing a recovery synchronization when it sees that the handheld synched elsewhere. The assumption with the Palm OS was always that you synched one computer to one PDA. With more propsperous times, the software has not yet evolved at Palm Source (not part of Palm Inc any longer.)
With regards to PocketMirror, there is a setting to allow you to synch to more than one PC. The setting is buried deep in the PocketMirror settings for each of the four conduits. The setting allows PocketMirror to see more than one PC as your route to an Exchange server.

I would recommend contact the palm free chat. Here is a link for that. I have a TX and have used the chat feature myself and always with good results. Scroll to the bottom of the page and then you will see Palm chat. From there click on chat now and follow the directions. Best wishes.
I was having a similar problem with my M515. I had originally installed the Palm Desktop from my CD, which was an older version. When I totally uninstalled the old version and installed the newer version from the Palm website I was able to do a successful sync. I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate and Palm Desktop version 4.1.4
View/Folder in Outlook
Open the Calendar
Click on "GO" on top Toolbar.
Click on "Folder List"
Should show "Pocket Mirror" Folder
( Cant access it from Mail Folder. The instructions are unclear in the Palm Help.) Took me ages to find the above
Even following the instructions by adding the Note in Pocket Mirror with the new handheld name I still get the same error as you and so GOOD LUCK!
A possible workaround:
I agree that the current synchronising behaviour is not very helpful - especially as it is not very clearly documented - I nearly lost all of my personal calendar data completely!
What I have done for now (and this may not be acceptable to you) is to allow Outlook Calendar to synchronise fully with my TE, but then mark all my personal appointments etc. as 'Private' (tick box in lower right hand corner of details). Tedious, I know, but hopefully will get easier as I go along... It is even possible to set up a 'filter' in Outlook so that the personal data is not displayed [Customise View: Filter / Advanced / Field: Sensitivity = Normal]
All your personal calendar data on the Tungsten will now be marked as private as well, so if you want to hide any 'really' private records on there, you'll have to set Security to lock the handheld on power-off until you enter a password.
Like you, I look forward to Palm resolving this issue by installing 1-way options on their conduits!
Selct Desktop overwrite Handheld.
You can change the way the synchronisation takes place for all applications, either from the palm desktop application or from the status icon in the taskmanager bar.
There are different options:
- Synchronize
- Handheld overwrite desktop
- Desktop overwrite handheld
- Do Nothing
If the PC is up-to-date and you want to use these data you should select the "Desktop overwrite Handheld". This will clear the handheld calender and replace with the data from the pc/desktop
After installing, reinstalling, deleting, hard resets, hitting head against wall... I tried installing the Pocket Mirror conduit as a last ditch effort. An error message popped up saying it could not find the mapi32.dll file. I looked at another PC, located that file in the windows32 directory, copied it to my PC, and I was able to hotsync with Outlook. To test this, I uninstalled the Pocket Mirror and Palm desktop SW, then deleted the mapi32.dll. Installed the Palm 4.1.4 sw, outlook 101 update, plus the conduit update, had same error messages. Added the mapi32.dll to the windows32 directory - was able to successfully sync with Outlook!
Tryy this -- Go to Chapura.com and purchase the pocket mirror software. I have Sprint service and that additional software has resolved my synch issues.
