There is no communication between my printer and the software.i can scan,but i can not print.

  1. Check to make sure that you have the latest firmware update for your printer. Click here for a Windows Update.
  2. Click here for the Windows Firmware Update.
  3. Click here for the Macintosh Firmware Update.
  4. If the printer LCD screen continues to display the same error message, do the following:
  1. Remove both cartridges from the printer.
  2. Move the Red Lock Switch (at the back of the printer) from the down position to the up position, and then move it back to the down position.
  3. Unplug the printer and turn it onto its left side.
  4. Then return the printer to its upright position and reapply the power supply.
  5. Attempt this fix twice and then try to print and scan once more.
NOTE: Installing the wrong upgrade file will not cause damage to the printer, but the LCD display will display some characters incorrectly. Downloading and installing the correct Firmware will resolve the issue.

Unlock scanner message appears
That means you have to "Unlock" it physically, there will be a lock/unlock device at the side underneath etc, that you move to "Release" the Scan head. When shipped it is "Locked" to prevent damage. the first time it is used you "Unlock" it.

The unlock scanner message the only thing I see in the lexmark x83 scanner. I turn it on and this is all it says. The unlock button on the back of the thing is unlocked. What on earth do I do?
Check that the carriage can move. The lock MAY still be blocking movement of the scanning bar.

There is a _mechanical_ lock, to prevent the scanner-head from moving while the unit is being transported. Unlock it.

Unlock scanner keeps appearing on my lexmark x85 printer
Go to the Lexmark web site here: http://support.lexmark.com/perl/support/support.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:0:0:0
- In the SEARCH BY MODEL box, type in X85 and click SEARCH
- In the SEARCH THE KNOWLEDGBASE box, type in UNLOCK SCANNER. It will show some instructions for the X83, but that was the little brother of the X85, so should work.

Carrier Stall is the error
Hi,
Please do the following..

To check the cartridge carrier:
  1. Unplug the printer.
  2. Move the cartridges to the left by hand and then take them out.
  3. Try to print without the cartridges in the carrier. Do you still receive a Carrier Stall error message?
  4. If not, put the cartridges back into the carrier and snap them in at the back. The message should no longer appear.
If the power light on the printer is not blinking, the error message may be caused by a communication error. Do the following:
  1. Remove any other devices attached to the USB/LPT port.
  2. Uninstall the Lexmark printer.
  3. Connect the printer directly to the PC and ensure that power is being supplied to the printer.
  4. Reinstall the printer.

Lexmark X83 "Unlock Scanner" error
I had the same problem and the solution is this: There is a red lever switch by the power chord on the scanner/printer. Above this red lever switch is the drawing of a lock in the "locked" position and at the bottom this red lever switch is the drawing of a lock in the "opened (unlock)" position. The lever on the red switch should point to the "opened" lock symbol (unlock). It the switch lever is pointing to the "locked" position of the lock symbol, flip it to the "opened" position and recycle power on the scanner by removing the power chord for a 30 seconds. If the lever is pointing to the "unlock" lock symbol, flip it to the "locked" position and then back to the "unlocked" position and recycle power. Good luck!
