Replacing the fan hub on a kirby classic omega 1CB

Hello

>I have a Classic omega but the closest model that you list to it is probably the Kirby Heritage model

>how do i replace the fan blade hub on the Omega Classic 1-CB?

>I'm able to get to both ends of the fan shaft but can't figure out how to keep it from turning while I try to unscrew the long retaining bolt that also drives the belt.

>The part that I can't figure out is how to grasp the armature side without damaging it.

>Is there a special tool or do I just stick the blade of a screw driver into the gaps that run along the armature?

>thanks ,email [email protected]

I resolved the problem .I found a way to hold the armature shaft still while I unscrewed the pulley drive nut ,which must be removed in order to remove the vacuum fan.

> There probably is a special tool somewhere that would fit over the armature ( the metal part that spins on the shaft of the motor inside the stature) to hold it still ,but since it was suspiciously omitted from the rest of the fan blade parts ,I had to fabricate one myself.

>I happen to have three ,steel blade ,broad paint scrappers which were about 2 to 3 inches wide and thin enough so there blades fitted nicely into the groves that run the length of the armature without damaging it, as would be the case with a narrower screw driver blade .

>Bracing the handles of the 3 scrapper blades in a slot that was in the side of the case ,which was probaby its' intented purpose, held the armature shaft still while I unscrewed the fan nut which happened to have a reverse thread.( turns clockwise to loosen) .

>It unscrewed with ease. Problem solved!

I have what I thought to be a Kirby Classic Omega that is in excellent running condition and looks great. I love it and have been using it for years, but it is recently going through an identity crises! I...

The Kirby Omega was made from 1973 to 1976.
The classic III 1976 to 1979
When in for repair the case (motor cover) from a Classic could be put on the Omega. This happens in repair shops if the teck. has two apart at the same time and was not paying attention.
Omega brown tells the true story. That is (Maybe) as all that could be changed as well. A lot of parts will interchange with one another.

Kirby Classic Omega 1-CB won't run

you need to get a new switch. These wires are semi-permanent inside the switch. You can get it from any Kirby dealer. Just before starting the machine, check the ground on the windings to make sure that you have no shorts. When running, check for volatage leaks by placing one probe of your voltmeter on the cover of the motor and the other probe on a ground source. If the meter reads 50 volts or hugher, check for worn or frayed winding insluation.

I CAN'T REPLACE THE BELT ON THE CLASSIC III (KIRBY). CAN YOU HELP ME? ELAINE
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The belt install on a Kirby is to raise the height adjustment to the highest level and then dial the belt off counter clockwise so it is loose and not on the fan pulley, release the top lever on the bell housing, then remove the bottom plate and unhook the brushroll on one side, slide the old belt off and then slide the new one on, replace the brushroll with the screws facing the carpet and re-hook the bottom plate on the Kirby. Then take the bell housing and hook that back on to the Kirby and lock it down. Then dial the belt on clockwise all the way and the belt should be on the fan pulley. The belt should be ready to go, plug in your Kirby and then do the step down on the vacuum height adjustment until the tone changes, then try to see id it picks up, if not go one more height adjustment and that should be the correct setting.
