On Microsoft Windows (Windows Vista & 7) this can be accomplished. On all versions of Windows, this panel can be reached by opening the Run line (or Start Menu search box on Vista and 7) Pressing WIN KEY+R and typing intl.cpl followed by Pressing Enter Key.
how can i change the - creativetech_0.png
This would open the Language Options.

From the above box you have to choose English US, the click Advance settings button at the bottom right as shown above.

Press E and select English US and press OK button. Restart the laptop.
As you would be facing French interface, it would be a little difficult but not impossible. So, Give it a try. Please note that options are the same and by paying a little attention, YOU CAN DO IT!

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

Welcome! The above screen shots are in English to give you an idea of the options and corresponding choice and buttons. No matter whatever the button says in french, just click according to the above pictures. After starting the PC, Press WINKEY + R and the language options would appear and you can make selections from the drop down menus, where you would certainly find English US.
For translation you may use Google Translatehttp://translate.google.com/

and what does the winkey look like?

WIN Key is next to the Ctrl Key with the Windows Logo on it. Compaq Presario 900 must be having Windows XP (Operating System). For Windows XP, it is very easy to change the language settings. Please refer to my earlier solution. Pressing WIN KEY+R and type intl.cpl Press Enter Key. You will get the language setting box/ options. Follow the instructions given in the following link.

To refresh the PC, you have to reinstall the Operating System. This would wipe all the previous files and settings and restore the system to defaults. But for the time being, it is recommended that you try the steps/ solutions for changing the language to English US.

You have Windows XP on your System, so you have to follow the instructions i sent today. From the link, you just have to concentrate on the pictures, which highlights the areas where you have to make changes. The second box shows the place from where you would be able to select English US

Hello
You cant change your language on your laptop true control panel, you need to reformat your laptop in the English language. the options in control panel is just for your regional settings and keyboard settings and so on.

only OS that you can change language in is the Vista Ultimate and then you need to install a language pack.

I accidently changed the language on my 205 series. I think its French but am not sure. How do I get it back to English?

  • On the page that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP press TOOLS (The spanner symbol) in the bottom right corner
  • Press SETTINGS (the spanner symbol) or LOCALE (the blue symbol) on models that don't have a settings icon
  • Press LANGUAGE (the lips icon)
This brings you to a screen with 3 items on it. VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD
If it's in French you won't know which is which but it will show the language beside the TEXT LANGUAGE icon. Francais is the French word for French. To change the voice language press VOICE and select an English speaking name. To change the text language press TEXT LANGUAGE and select English or American English if you're in the USA.

This should solve your problem.

Go to Google Translate and use it to translate from French to English. It is a translating application you can use to read the French setup on the computer. You'll need another computer to do the translation.

Compaq laptop can't get the ? symbol

Hi,

Looks like the French keyboard mapping is still in effect.
You can try changing the keyboard keys back to where they were by pressing:

Left CTRl + left Shift at the same time. then try typing the ?/ key. You may have to try this a couple of times to get it to work.

If it does work, try the right ctrl/left shift key.

Also found this:

Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Keyboards and Languages,
Change Keyboards. Select the keyboard you that's causing you grief and
choose Remove.

If you don't remove the keyboard map, when this switch happens, you'll have
to exit the application you're in (Outlook, for example), change keyboards,
and restart the app. Changing keyboards without restarting the app doesn't
seem to change the mapping.

Hope this helps!
