On Microsoft Windows (Windows Vista & 7) this can be accomplished. On all versions of Windows, this panel can
be reached by opening the Run line (or Start Menu search box on Vista
and 7) Pressing WIN KEY+R and typing intl.cpl followed by Pressing Enter Key.
This would open the Language Options.
From the above box you have to choose English US, the click Advance settings button at the bottom right as shown above.
Press E and select English US and press OK button. Restart the laptop.
As you would be facing French interface, it would be a little difficult but not impossible. So, Give it a try. Please note that options are the same and by paying a little attention, YOU CAN DO IT!
Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.
Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

hi thaks for that, but every thing is in french and i dont understand a word so can u help in the translation plz
Welcome! The above screen shots are in English to give you an idea of the options and corresponding choice and buttons. No matter whatever the button says in french, just click according to the above pictures. After starting the PC, Press WINKEY + R and the language options would appear and you can make selections from the drop down menus, where you would certainly find English US.

hi sorry for bothering you again but im new to computers, im using a acer to chat with you, the laptop im trying to use is a old compaq pressario 900 is there any way i can mae it go back to how it was when it was new, meaning to reeboot the whole system so there is no old files left on it apart from the ones that come with it? and then it should go back to english no?
and what does the winkey look like?
WIN Key is next to the Ctrl Key with the Windows Logo on it. Compaq Presario 900 must be having Windows XP (Operating System). For Windows XP, it is very easy to change the language settings. Please refer to my earlier solution. Pressing WIN KEY+R and type intl.cpl Press Enter Key. You will get the language setting box/ options. Follow the instructions given in the following link.

To refresh the PC, you have to reinstall the Operating System. This would wipe all the previous files and settings and restore the system to defaults. But for the time being, it is recommended that you try the steps/ solutions for changing the language to English US.

hi me again i just folloewed your steps but when the language option window opens i put what u asked me but it does not give me a option to advance it just says ok or cancel. and the link you have asked me to open is telling me to change the keyboard layout. i dont want to change the layout because it is a azerty lay out so the letters will move around
You have Windows XP on your System, so you have to follow the instructions i sent today. From the link, you just have to concentrate on the pictures, which highlights the areas where you have to make changes. The second box shows the place from where you would be able to select English US
