If the blue LED on your Energy ESW-V10 subwoofer is always on but the woofer won't turn on regardless of the switch position, it's possible that there is an issue with the amplifier or power supply. Try checking the power cord and making sure it's plugged in securely. If that doesn't work, you may need to have the subwoofer professionally repaired or replaced.
if you short a sub it will hum try connecting it to a working speaker (no amplifier) if you have access to rear of sub check for wire only needs to be the size of a hair arcing out the speaker, i have a sub that does that on only one output (left rear) its actually the stereo causing it to hum..
There's a 8-pin ic located right at the side of output devices & power supply filter caps, that is a common issue with JRX active subwoofers, hope it helps.
It is VERY RARE for such a change to be beneficial. The cabinets and speakers are finely tuned to work together and the originals are usually just as good performers as anything you can replace them with. If you want a subwoofer you need to get a larger cabinet and preferably a larger speaker. A ten inch speaker for subwoofer use would require a closely engineered cabinet. Best to go to a single powered 15 inch subwoofer (one designed as subwoofer) to run alongside your BR-10's.

if the speaker is actually receiving signal and has sound, the next question is if the sub is self amplified or not. if it is check the amp in it. if not then check your unit to make sure the bass is not turned down and that the correct surround setting are there. there is also possibility that the show or item your listening too isn't outputting correct channels.
I have the exact same problem with my S8.3 that I purchased a few months ago. It's just the blue LED that doesn't light up, otherwise it seems to output bass and the volume control works. Any suggestions?
I have the same speaker and it sounds like its behaving properly.
if you look on the back of the amp, you will find a switch that allows the speaker to automatically switch the speaker on or off based on the level of the audio coming from the tuner that it is attached to. If the switch is set to the auto mode, then it will listen for audio on the line and if the signal level coming into the subwoofer is high enough, the amplifier in the subwoofer will turn on and play. If the signal is not strong or loud enough, then the subwoofer will not turn on. There are two solutions to getting the speaker to work.
1. When you turn on the tuner or audio source that is feeding the Subwoofer speaker, you will need to turn it up loud enough to trigger the circuit in the subwoofer to switch on.
2. Alternatively, you can bypass the automatic circuit and set it to the "ON position all the time. In this position the subwoofer is always ready and waiting and should play any signal that is fed to it regardless of the loudness or volume of sound from the tuner. The switch is located on the back of the speaker cabinet just to the right of the red and black speaker wire connections. It is labeled "AUTO" and the switch positions are labeled ON and OFF.
