Hi,

Initially, this would either be a defective LCD panel or its interface. A way to verify is to play the portable DVD using an external video monitor such as your TV. If still gray or blue screen (no video) even in the TV/monitor, then it would be the video interface/circuitry. If the video is displayed, then it would just be the LCD panel display.

If it turns out to be the LCD display, it is very possible that it is a backlighting issue. Most likely, it would be in the inverter and/or CCF (cold cathode florescent) lamps. This is a relatively easy repair by re-soldering. It is perhaps more of a task to open the panel lid/cover of the LCD display.

This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Chrysler town and country; rear seat dvd has no picture. Hear sound. Get picture and sound from Auxillary jacks so it is not the screen. Ran cleaner in player. didn't help

If you are getting sound and picture from the screen's auxiliary jacks, then this only confirms that the screen is faulty. The DVD player must be reading the picture signal as it supplying the auxiliary jacks, but the screen has failed to display the signal.

Daewoo combo - DVD is fine, sound works but not picture appears

The video heads have been clogged. You can try a cleaning tape, but those often do not work. If that fails, you will need to have a professional clean the heads and verify the head alignment. This should not cost more than $50 or so.

Barely visible picture and no sound

2 things the easy fix would be the screen switch is jammed a little circle next to where the door close you will need to pry the switch out and the second fix (your backlight (inverter) is out (better off buying a new unit)

DVD Player Stuck In Progressive Scan Mode

A simple solution that works with electronic items many times, so give it a try. Turn Off your player, un-plug the electrical supply, wait about 2 minutes then re-connect the electricity and turn on the player. Many times this will force the machine to reset itself. This technique can be used for ALL electroinc devices.
