After downloading Norton Internet Security update several weeks ago, I lost access to internet through Internet Explorer but can access Internet using my Outlook address bar and Favorites. But when I click Explorer, I cannot access. Diagnostics says my firewall is blocking HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP. However, turning the firewall off does not make a difference. Symantec/Norton had me uninstall & reinstall Internet Security. Result = no change. My ISP will not help because they say I have internet connection so the problem is with my Gateway computer.

It is not possible to transfer the Norton Internet Security 2005 to new 2010 version. If you have enough subscription days, I recommend you to contact the technical support of Symantec. They will help you in accomplishing this task.
it is almost certainly your firewall or other security software blocking the connection Make sure that your firewall program is configured to allow internet access.Besides personal firewalls, other security programs, including Norton or Symantec Antivirus, can block internet access or cause other connection issues, especially after the browser is updated.
You most likely have a worm try to acces an antivirus online scanner and/or go to windows update if you are unable to access them as well you have Win32.Worm.Downadup.Gen. It prevents any access to any antivirus software and windows updates it also turns off any installed sntiviru updates. Removal is actually really simple just go here http://www.bdtools.net/download-removal-tool.php
Diana,
I feel it is Norton clashing somewhere. Can you uninstall Norton and then browse. If you can browse properly then it is Norton that has created the problem. You can then try some other anti virus.
If the problem still persists then probably your tech friend is correct and you must take it to the store you bought it from and have the computer reset. But, before that you must start IE and tweak with the Internet Options from Tools. But keep noting down what you are doing so that you can undo those changes.
Have you tried using a different browser? Try downloading Mozilla Firefox. If your problem is solved, then you will nkow that is is a browser problem...If you gain access to other websites then you might have a problem with the security settings in Internet Explorer. You could try lowering your security settings in Internet Explorer in order to gain access to Facebook. Hope this helps.
Looks to me the EASIEST thing to do would be to use SYSTEM RESTORE function for windows and go back at least one day before you installed the update. That should lick this problem.
You may also try to disable Norton and see what is does for you internet connection. Uninstalling Norton is not out of the question, but you may have to get the NORTON REMOVAL TOOL to completely get rid of Norton.
although, not specified what you did but i presume 2 actions:
1. Running the program and cannot be completely loaded, it means that there's a program that block your Norton Internet Security 2008 to run, and that might be a Virus or Trojan. or someone is hacking in your pc (might be). and this will happen, if your Norton Internet Security 2008 is not updated and/or you install an internet plug ins in some of your visited website and through that plug ins the website administrator has a link in your pc to access, but not all.
solution: try to uninstall and fresh install your Norton Internet Security 2008 but before you do that make sure that you have a supported docs like cd key and response code from Norton if any, to successfully install your anti virus. and before you install, unplug your connection from internet (install offline, after installation, update it and scan your pc).
2. you install your Norton Internet Security 2008 and cannot be completely loaded, it means that Norton program is corrupted. please have a fresh copy in cd if any and install it.
Might seem silly but easiest way out is to reinstall windows and do not use Norton find another anti virus etc.as you can spend hours trying to find a solution
