I just bought a Mavica FD-88 and so far love it. But I noticed a rattling sound when it records an image. I've used a FD-81 before and didn't notice a rattling like this with that particular camera. It seems to be working fine despite the noise. Can anyone tell me what this noise is and if it's normal? Thanks
I'm considering getting the FD-88 also. The one I tried out at circuit city rattled & the sales rep said this is normal. I tried out a friends FD-73 & it didn't. I can just imagine how many hundreds of times a day the FD-88 store display was handled, I would rattle too :)

You might want to check out more comments about the FD-88 drive on the Mavica Info Exchange archives posted by Dave Wetzel. Some diskettes seem to cause a "grinder" sound while others don't. I also read some folks had the drive replaced, hope this helps. http://www.mavican.nu/

You have nothing to worry about. It's normal. The 3.5 diskette drive is a 4X speed and the noise you hear is normal. All FD83's and 88's will make noise and vibrate a little.
