What I want to know is this: does the usb-host deliver enough power and is anybody able to actually work with a 1.8" or 2.5" usb harddisk without a separate batterypack or charger?
You may need to look up the hard drive on the manufacturers web site. They should list the spec's, including power requirements. In theory, sounds good though - anything to eliminate a power brick is good. Do you already have a hard drive you're thinking of using? If so, please post the drive model, manufacturer, etc - I can look it up at work in our files.
