Put the camera in manual mode, and ( probably ) use the up and down arrow keys. You should be able to select an exposure time up to four or eight seconds.

you should be able to set the shutter speed to the longest setting and do this. The setting is limited to the max programmed length I believe, which on the 4040 is 16 seconds.

Hi, please help my F stop not displaying & I dont know how to change it. i'm trying to work in the manual setting. i'm a complete novice & finding it difficult. many thanks sara...

If the lens has an aperture ring, set it to its smallest setting (largest f/number). In the manual exposure mode, change the aperture by turning the subcommand dial (on the front of the camera).
Take a look at this.

When I turn on the camera the screen is black. The digital screen works for menu options but is completely black when trying to take a picture

Hi,

The black screen problem means the lens sensor is spoiled due to over exposure to heat. Its better to give it to Olympus service centre. If your camera is under warranty period its well and good they will replace the lens sensor for free of cost.

Thank you

Blurred Images with Olympus E520

When operating any digital camera, the camera tries to capture the best focus and exposure for that particular scene. By pressing the shutter button half-way down, the focus and exposure is being set. There will be a green circle on the upper left hand corner of the screen, then your camera is ready to take the picture. Slowly depress the shutter the rest of the way down to take the picture.

The e1 cam saves 3 photos

Are you using any AE or WB bracketing functionality - according to the manual on pages 70-72 if these are set the camera will take three different shots of the same photo to show you the different exposure compensation or different white balance settings. Try turning either of these settings off and it should just go back to one shot at a time

Continuos timed exposures

You may need to have the camera plugged into the computer and operated by the software that came with it. It might have a feature there called intervalometer.
