Try opening the file using Adobe Reader and then simply highlight the entire document with your mouse, press Ctrl-C for Copy, then open Word, start a new document, and press Ctrl-V for Paste.
An easy way to select the text from the entire document is, once you are viewing it in Adobe Reader, simply click on the very first character in the document, then on the keyboard, press Ctrl-A for Select All. To reiterate. from that point, press Ctrl-C for Copy, then open a new document in Word, and press Ctrl-V for Paste.
The instructions I've given for Adobe Reader should work just as well for Adobe Acrobat Professional, but since I don't have that loaded on my PC, I can't say for sure.
