If the faders are not SERVO driven they should not be rough. Sometimes they have slot sealing plastic covering the groove of the slider that may give some drag. As to the fan, the unit looks like it has a small fan which tend to be noisier than larger ones. Some fans are throttled by sensing temperature. Make sure the air flow is free and not occluded by cables or cabinetry.

What could be causing a strange static sounding noise in the headphones only when pressing PFL on any channel.

The "PFL" Stands fo r"Pre Fader Level". Just in case you did not realize. so when you press the "PFL" button , and the red light goes out?, You're saying that the hissing goes away and that you have clarity. Yes? and the volume presents no issues? Also correct? Part of that simply, is with the PFL in the on position. You are engaging the fader for one, which will add to an already boosted signal ( the the fader is turned Up?). also you may have your Clip set incorrectly. to set this you turn PFL off, then at your signal input level Dial (usually at the very top in-line with your fader. _ set the volume on your device, then input clip level on the board \ to where the clip light comes on. not a steady light, but a blinking light so make it steady, then back it off a hair. Okay? this whole time make sure your mains are down. or off at the faders. Once clip is set., PFL is in off position, gradually turn your mains up to level. Now, the PFL is for when you have more than one signal. say from an instrument on another channel. unless you have that? No need to use the PFL. If you do have an instrument in line,. then, before you turn PFL on,make sure that your fader on that channel is turned off. -turn on your PFL, then gradually bring that to level. never messing with the mains level.

I know that is a lot of info. but it is a process. that should eliminate any hissing you may have heard.
Good luck!!

Allen & heath xone 42 fader problem channel 1

Hello,

Carbon track on fader 1 is open because of wear or just broken, if you are getting sound then the ground carbon track is out but certainly the problem lies in the pot.

Hi there. When I power on the mxer it blinks all the signal light and the power light with the sound level indicator repeatedly untill i turn the unit off, I cannot use the mixer and would like to know...

Make sure ALL interconnected equipment is powered by the same receptacle or power conditioner. Do NOT use separate recptacles at opposite ends of a romm for example. Run power extension back with your snake. There may be a failure in the unit. Since it is so new, exercise your warranty... do NOT risk voiding the warranty. Do verify that your power is clean.

No volume control with 2 faders on Mackie CR1604 mixer

If all other functions work for those channels, the most likely problem is the fader itself. These can fail and operate more like switches rather than faders. Without witnessing the behavior, I can not state that for sure. While these mixers are not the hardest to work on, they are time consuming. The faders can be purchased from Mackie directly. If you need to have this repaired, any shop that repairs audio gear should be able to erpair this for you. Where are you located?
