Hi,

Improve the Fixya.com experience for everyone by voting!

Unfortunately, I would either have to be in the chat mode or on the telephone with you to fully analyze your problem and provide a coherent answer. But don't despair because there is a little FREE program that may solve your problem.

It happens periodically that our computer shuts down, restarts, hibernates or some other weird thing when we really don't want it to. I'm going to pass on to you a FREE and hard to believe program from Microsoft! I have no idea why this little program hasn't been advertised but then I don't own their stock.

Just click on the following link and your problem should be solved: Download Microsoft's Fixit

I don't know your skill level so my suggestion is that you utilize the automatic function of Fixit.

Be a hero and fix your friends' computers; just don't tell them how you did it! That will be our little secret.

All the best,

Ben

Hi my laptop has just recently started playing up. I turn it on, it loads up but b4 it gets to the log in screen it shuts down.then restarts and goes on like this in a loop. Please help. Char

In all likelyhood you have a corruption in the OS. The best way to fix this is to use the recovery patition that HP/Compaq had on their computers. To access this partition, during the initial boot when the Compaq splash screen is on, look near the bottom it will say something like: Press F11 to acees recovery.

Once in the recovery you will have a couple of options, chose the full factory restore (yes this will erase everything on the computer and reset it to the way it was when you first purchased it). You will be asked several times are you sure? or do you wish to continue? answer yes to these.

Once complete you compter will be back to the original state it was shipped in. You will need to update and reinstall any software you had on the computer.

Hope this helps

I would like to use my old 40 gb Western Digital Harddrive for a secondary data drive on my Desktop computer. When I hooked them both up and powered up the computer wouldn't boot, I assumed it was because...

http://www.lyberty.com/tech/hard_drives/WD_Caviar_WD400BB_specs/index.html

Above is the link to set the jumper on the 40GB to Slave.
Also, before it boots, try to get into the BIOS setting and make sure your compter can see both drives. If not, double check jumper settings for both drives. Turn off compter and change settings.

When computer can see both drives in BIOS, save it and let the compter continue to boot.

Hope this helps.

Please try the following:

1. Check the ip address and default gateway on the computer by typing ipconfig in command prompt.

2. Try to ping the default gateway from the hardwired computer.

3. If you are able to ping the default gateway, but not able to log in, Delete Cookies and check if you could log in.

My kensington optical2.0 wireless mouse will not work on my toshiba sattelite 300 series vista home premium after downloading driver

please follow the follwing steps:

1. remove the device from the computer.

2.remove unkown devices from the compter. follow steps.
a) select the compter icon on the desktop and right click and select manage.
b) select device manager.
c) look for heading usb devices or unkown devices. if there are unkown devices in your compter that selection tree would be open. just select select the unkown devices and click delete. confirm the same.

3) post deleting all unkown devices, reboot your laptop.
now keep the driver disk handy which came along with the mouse or the driver you have downloaded., preferablly install the driver if its an executable file before connecting the device, other wise save the file to your desktop and ensure the driver is not in a zip or a rar archive, please extract the same.

4) connect the device, the compter would search the driver, failing to find the driver compter would ask for the options. select that you have the disk under advanced option. select the driver you have download and it would show you the device and please continue the installation with the same driver.

You are done... your device would work then.
