Some routers come preset with a network key, others can be manipulated. many have driver issues when dealing with newer Pc's Are you getting internet through a wired connection from the router? or is this strictly a wi-fi issue?
Well you have formatted the system, so you need to install the Wi-Fi driver in order to access the Wi-Fi.
ou must be having the driver CD, If you dot have just download the wi-fi driver from internet and install it on your Laptop and re-start the laptop and you will be able to access the Wi-Fi again.
First make sure wi fi switch on laptop is turned on. MAke sure wi fi network adapter driver installed and enable. Right click on my network places so you can see your wi fi network adapter there if it is installed . Right click on it then enable. Then again right click on it then click on view for available wi fi networks. Then it find network if any wi fi router is in range. Then click on connect. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks.

Here is likely what happened.. Your original Hard drive Probably had the Operating System and System Drivers/Software Embedded onto it from the manufacturer.....which uses a Restore CD set
You added a New Drive.. which comes Blank, Then loaded XP.. Now you still need your System Drivers... this will have the drivers for your Wireless and sound and the right display driver etc... You should go to the Manufacturers website of your Laptop and Download the default drivers from their website
