Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W1 Digital Camera

I've broken the battery door on my Sony Cybershot 7.2 camera. I'm taping it shut but how can I get it fixed...or CAN it be replaced.

A camera repair shop can fix it but it's pricey. mine has broken for the second time. you can find the replacement door and instructions on the internet to fix it yourself. i'm looking to see if anyone makes a replacement that is sturdier since the original is so cheap and just breaks again. i'm sticking with the tape for now since i have a new canon that is tons better.

The battery door latch is most likely damaged/broken. Try using a piece of duct tape to keep it closed. I've done this on several cameras with battery door latch issues & the doors stayed shut just fine.

Once it has been in water, it is basically ruined - repair would cost way more than replacement.

you should clean the contacts on the battery and the pins inside the battery well (a q-tip with isopropanol or electrical contact cleaner will work).

Hi, With a battery door like that you can tape it shut, while not the most visually appeasing fix it is the cheapest. Your other option is to order a battery door for the camera, http://www.ownta.com/sony-dsc-t70-camera-repairing-battery-door-battery-cover-replacement.html has it for $45, or you can contact Sony and order one directly from him. The only thing I'll caution you about with replacing the battery door is that you do have to disassemble the entire camera to install it.

The plastic lugs to the lid and edges of the battery case on the camera have broken ,this is causing the lid to not close properly

yep, happens to most all of them eventually. mine has broken twice. i had it repaired at the camera shop and the next time i put in new batteries it broke again. i'm sticking to a piece of tape. i've seen you can buy the replacement door online and i've seen the instructions for replacing it yourself via a google search.

The battery door will not clamp shut.

Only way is to replace the part with a genuine accessory.It won't be of a big cost.Please contact your nearest authorized service center.

I suggest that you contact Sony PAS to get the new Battery cover at 1-800-488-SONY (7669)

Phone Hours:
Monday to Friday - 8:00 am to 12 am (Midnight) ET
Saturday and Sunday - 9:00 am to 8:00 pm ET

Then, contact the nearest dealer to get the Battery door fixed instead of sending for service.
All you have to do is, press the pin on both the sides of the Battery door and insert in the hole available for battery door on camera.

Sony Cyber-Shot Battery Compartment Door Broken

I'm having the same problem with my DSC-W1 camera. I dropped my camera and the battery door latches broke.
I found a replacement door on Ebay for $9.95
I followed the instructions in the description and easily removed the broken door from my camera. Now i'm just waiting on the new door to arrive so I could slide the new door in.

sony cyber-shot dsc-w1 turns off when trying to take a picture will stay on if in "looking at picture/scrolling" mode. when turn on in picture-taking mode, if it focuses correctly or not, will immediately turn off. the batteries themselves are fine. thought maybe the battery housing & the connection, but it stays on in the viewing mode, just not the picture taking mode. had to remove the "gasket"/little ring of plastic between the "telescoping" parts of the lens (has become stretched & coming out & preventing the lenses from going all the way in or out). arghhh!

Broken battery door latches? Try a simple practical solution. Insert batteries. Close battery compartment door. Secure door with small plate held by 1/4" NC round head screw in the tripod mount. With a bit more effort one could mount a detachable handle at that location as well. Such a handle provides a more stable camera which is easier to use and is less likely to be dropped.
