I want to upgrade my ipaq from ROM version 2.07 to 2.20 but when I do this I get the message 'device must have Pocket PC 2002 before upgrading', this is strange because when I look at the HP support site I only see ROM version 1.87 (PC2000) and version 2.20 (PC2002) so where does my 2.07 version come from? And more important, how do I upgrade to v2.20?
I would check your iPAQ to see what operating system is showing. Start -> Settings -> System (Tab on bottom) -> About (icon) this will tell you if its 2000 or 2002. You may have to acquire an older ROM and reflash.

Hi there, I think you pressed some more buttons and accidentaly you entered your device into Serial Mode (Bootloader), which you should update your ROM or reinstall your existing ROM in order to exit that state. I am sending you a link to HP website including your device's ROM upgrade download link, and a complete list of instructions. First of all, connect your device with a usb cable to your PC and see the "USB Mode" in the screen of your PDA. Also please be carefull and read the instructions very carefully before starting the process. Here is the link: (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?swItem=ip-55697-1〈=en&cc=us&idx=0&mode=4&)
Hope this helps. Have a nice day.
If after a hard reset the PDA doesn't give you back the sms folder, it is most likely to asume that a ROM reinstall must be done. If you have a USB sync cable, check the HP site and download the ROM version for your Ipaq. Carefull with the rom upgrade, it's a simple process but must be done with care and by the instructions given there.
The default e-mail client on pocketPC 2003 is the "inbox" which is merly a utility for retreiving & sending e-mail.
There is no "outlook 2002" on pocket PC's.
The Outlook 2002 installation cd comes with most iPaqs and is intended for your pc, not your ipaq.
you should install the ROM v1.10 update, and then install the 8/3/2005 XIP BIOS update recently posted at:
Apparently, this BIOS update is supposed to correct the region in ROM v1.10 where the hi-capacity battery read error is found, without incrementing the ROM version. It's explained in the BIOS update "Read Me" file, here:
