Re:
Hans is in a right way because there is no image to install. The system is installed at ROM in the PDA, so ROM means READ ONLY MEMORY, if it is read only you can't write on it!
So there is only one way, switch the accu and perhaps it works properly after this troubleshotting!

Here is an easy proposal for troubleshooting. Did you push the ON/OFF button for a few seconds? Did you switch the battery and wait between switching a few minutes?
If the pda doesn't work after this troubleshooting you should go to a Service partner because there could be a hardware problem.

mcdevito75 here, Even a so-called new battery doesn"t really mean it"s NEW!! NEW!! in other words your NEW! battery could have been laying in a store for months before you bought it. Thes ebatteries have a shelf life of a few months, about 1 year with use in a clock / watch.---- Try another battery, also the quartz mechanism could be starting to wear., also double check the battery is installed correctly.
is your hard drive full? if it is clean it out. How much ram do you have...max it out. This is an old machine and it's not very fast..it hasn't been made in four years or more.
what system are you using? Maybe it's time for a faster computer or a faster computer.
Its kind of hard to mess up replacing a board in a TV, only thing to watch out for is the board can hold a charge after its unplugged even if its not working. Here is the service manual for your set. Toshiba 50HP16 Service Manual
I don't think the scratch has anything to do with the screen alignment. You might end up replacing the screen and the alignment problem will persist.
The alignment screen coming up is probably due to other hardware problems, and it should be covered by a warranty if you got even a limited one on the demo, its not your fault for causing the scratch on the screen, it probably has nothing to do with it.
you shouldn't have waited a year with this problem.
about replacing the screen- try getting a dead toshiba pda that uses the same screen from ebay, one that still has a screen intact,
but don't go over your head with replacing it, don't go beyond a point where you don't remember anymore what goes where.
Good luck
