Question about HP iPAQ HX4700 Pocket PC

1 Answer

ActiveSync I have a new hx4700 for a few weeks now. Everything seems to work fine until this morning. When I connect the hx4700, it kept trying to sync but not successful. It kept giving me message that one or more information was not sync and recommend that I disconnect the device and reconnect again. I tried several time, but it's still not working. I even uninstalled and reinstalled active sync. I need some help.

IPAQ HX4700 won't sync with desk top

Hello, Please try the following steps. They could help with your problem. First open this link to hp's download page for your PDA. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?&lang=en&cc=us&pnameOID=420535&taskId=135&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=420534&lang=en&cc=us Then select your pda's operating system (windows mobile 2003se or windows mobile 5). then from the following page select the ROM update and download it. Try to master reset the pda (you may find informations about this in the user manual). After you reset the device, don't tap anything on the screen (don't follow the welcome wizard or anything it asks you to do). Just connect the usb cable to the computer. Activesync may try to connect to the pda, may fail or things like this. It doesn't matter what does it do as long as it does something. Now open the ROM file you downloaded and press "next" untill the process begins. If the setup asks you to reset the device or things similar, don't do it. Just continue with the setup and "tell" the program you already done that. Make sure your battery is charged before doing this. Also make sure the pda and the computer are left alone these 10 minutes (that's how long it takes to do the ROM update). If the ROM update fail, please post a comment and give me the error message and code. We will take it from there. Also please inform me what version of windows are you using and eventually an email adress for me to send various service programs required for the next stage (if the rom update fails to work). Good luck, Bogdan

IPaq hx4700 crashed-can I recover data?

Anything left in the system memory at the time of a hard rest is gone. The only thing that returns is the files from the factory. Sorry.

Ipaq hx4700 dead :(

I would try a hard reset before you resign yourself to HP repair.

ActiveSync 'Unresolved Items'

At some point when I installed some windows updates, my Outlook started asking if I wanted to allow ActiveSync to access Outlook's data and for how long. Do you get a dialogue like this when you sync while Outlook is running? Could it be that when it's not running, you aren't given the dialogue and thus permission is not granted to ActiveSync to access the data?

Data erased from iPAQ hx4700

If an ipaq loses power , then all data in RAM is lost. It's important to keep it charged. It's also important to do regular backups..... so there are two backup options - one is thru Activesync which will backup to your PC and one is the IPAQ's own backup program which will backup to the IPAQ FILE STORE (area in ROM) or a SD card. I do the Activesync backup every time I sync and then the IPAQ backup about once a week or immediately before a system change. Activesync backup ------------------------ Here is a guide which best explains it http://www.cewindows.net/faqs/activesync/backup.htm this guide suggests doing a full backup, but it's fine to do an incremental backup each sync - this means that only changes will be added to your backup and makes the whole process much quicker. IPAQ Backup ----------------- So under Programs is a program called IPAQ Backup. The default location is IPAQ FILE STORE which is an area in ROM and is not lost thru a power failure nor hard reset. You may also choos to backup to a SD card - a full backup will need roughly 20MB. So in this backup procedure, if you click on 'Browse' you can choose a SD card. A restore can then be performed from the IPAQ FILE STORE or SD card (depending on which location you chose) and so if you are away from your PC, this will be no problem. A restore this way , rather than thru Activesync is also much quicker, so if you have a choice go this route.
