Marantz PMD671 recorder - download problem

How do I download a recording from the media card to my mac? Nothing registers on my computer when I connect to the recorder via usb... When I connect my Marantz recorder to my PC with the USB cable, it allows me to transfer files to the PC.  However, when I do the same thing with the Mac, nothing happens.  My Mac doesn't recognize it at all.

Thanks.  I got it working awhile ago, but I forget how.  I think it had something to do with the order of connecting it and turning it on.  For some reason it was different for my Mac than for my PC.  (I have a Mac notebook with OS X (10.5.5).)

I need to know what model mac you have. This would help. Also what operating system you are using. Older macs may not be compatible unless you update the system. The latest macs with the intel chip work fine with this. Once quick solution is to update your software to the latest versions by going to your apple with your mouse in the upper left corner of your screen and then clicking it. Scroll down to the title software update. click that and then click update now. Check the boxes of all you want to update and then hit enter. *Note: you must be connected to the internet in order to make these updates. I would suggest being connected something faster than dial up.
After you have done your updates, try to reconnect the Marantz. Remeber to connect it first then turn it on.
Another solution is to format the card on your mac first by using a card reader and the program Disk Utilities located in your utilities folder. It is important to choose the Fat 32 format (You will see this in your pull down menu). Note: This will erase everything on your card.
If you have a card reader, you can always take the card out of the recorder and try to read it that way as there may be a communication issue with the mac and the recorder, but if it can be read on the PC and not the mac, I doubt that is the issue.

Can't import to my mac

The CX-R190 is not designed to be compatible with the Mac. However, if the recordings you want are on the microSD card, you can simply remove the card from the recorder and insert it into a card reader (either built-in to your computer or connected via USB or FireWire) and copy the files the same way you copy any other files on your Mac.

When I press record, it says Err Card 1. I've tried a new card and formatting. Any ideas?

Sorry to say that it's clear that this Marantz recorders develop this problem over time and Marantz has offered no solutions. When I first purchased this recorder it was enormously reliable and stable, but I find now that it is totally the opposite -- often it has recorded for a while and then suddenly develops an inability to read the SD card and so either quits recording or freezes up.
There seems to be no clear solution to this, and the random nature of the problem makes the recorder wholly unreliable in a live or field setting. This is, sad to say, unacceptable.

How to format a new CF Card without getting a display message that says "must format on PC"?

I have this same problem. I have 3 cards. 1 of them my Marantz PMD671 just doesn't like, and produces the error message "you need format on PC". I can format it on PC, and use it normally, but the PMD671 will not have it. The card is a cheapo Dane-elec.
I give up at this point.

Cant get mp3 files from my marantz pmd620 to play on my mac

Well, try copying them to a folder on your computer. Also, make sure that the files are not proteced with DRM. If these fail, open iTunes. Select all of the MP3 files and drag them into your library. That should fix it.

I have a Marantz 660 - when I tried to download a recording the icon didn't come up on the computer- it did the first time and I was able to download but it didn't work the second time.

Hi. I use mine with a Mac. The instructions say it's the same for PC. From the 'off' position, plug in the usb cable to the computer, hold down the 'copy/ usb' button and switch it on. The display will read 'usb' and the icon -"should" appear on the desktop. Open the folder and look for files with machine ID. Failing that, try new usb cable? or the techies favourite: "switch everything off and start again" LOL
