SOURCE: Symbol LS2208 barcode reader no data to screen
Just because it has a DB9 does not mean it is a direct connection. Many Bar code scanners have the DB9 connecting to a interface box and the interface box connects to the PC. If it is really a rs-232 scanner then you need to configure your serial port to the proper settings specified by symbol. But I am confident that this unit is missing the interface box.

you can use the code book to clear any prefixes that may have been set on the scanner or you can try a factory reset (using the code book)
SOURCE: ean 13 problem
dear bluegreenash, the EAN 13 has 12 real characters..the first one(13 character) shows the country code and it's called "check digit".The default settings in the bar code scanner do not show the 13 character if the value is zero!!(zero is the code for US and Canada). So,by going to the configuration manual I scanned the setting that enables and shows the check digit character and the problem solved!!thanks for the help!!
SOURCE: Create a barcode for F1 and F2 using Labelview
If you have created your barcodes as "F1" and "F2" you will have to create two Advanced Data Formatting rules with the LS2208 Product Reference Guide. This link will take you to the manual. Print only the barcodes you need from the list below then scan them in the order they are listed:
Begin New Rule
Specific String at Start
F (from the Alpha-numeric section of manual)
1 (from the Alpha-numeric section of manual)
End of message (from the Alpha-numeric section of manual)
Send F1 Key
Save Rule
Begin New Rule
Specific String at Start
F
2
End of Message
Send F2
Save Rule
That should do it!
SOURCE: Motorola MC3090 do not read barcode starting with zero
look online there are learning barcodes out there you can scan, look for one with zero in front, if you are making the barcodes yourself than put a * at the beginning and end and then make barcode, it will capture everything in between,
