Question about Toshiba e310 Pocket PC

E310 and GPS

Does anybody know if it is possible to use the Toshiba e310 for NAVIGATION with GPS. I read somewhere that you need a Toshiba Bluetooth SD Card first and then connect via that to a Bluetooth GPS. Is that right, and are there any things to take care before purchasing either of those. OR is it also possible to directly use a GPS via the SD-slot ?

Before you buy the GPS for your PDA please be careful if the GPS manufacturer guaranteed the functionality with your PDA. I have e800 and I plan to buy the GPS for my unit. Unfortunately at the moment I have no information which one you should you use. You should have a look at the following document, to see how to setup a BT connection to your BT -GPS device. http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/redirect.php?page=pages/howto.html http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/pages/howto/How_to_use_a_Bluetooth_GPS_Receiver_v002.zip

Findedrive 400 doesn't read the SD for Operating System Update.

I read somewhere that if you hold the home key on power up it should go to windows CE rather than into the nav program. I dont have one to test right now but if it works, please let me know.

My Toshiba e310 turns on by itself

It could be a piece of software that you have recently installed "activating" your PDA. I had this problem after installing a program that, amongst other things, monitored battery life. Once i uninstalled it it was fine so whether that was just a big coincidence i dont know.

GPS-card possible in SD-slot?

As far as I know there is possibility to use Compact flash but no SD. I also know that you can find a lot of solutions that use USB or Bluetooth connection for GPS.

GPS

I don’t know which GPS you have but as far as I know the GPS manufacturer publish the list with all compatible PDAs. If you want you can try to check it on the manufacturer’s web page.

PDA e310, e330 or e740 together with Windows NT 4.0

The Toshiba Pocket PC's e310, e330 and e740 are designed to work together with Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Millennium, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Microsoft Windows NT4.0 is an older operating system, which does not work together with the Toshiba Pocket PC's e310,e330 and e740. Technical background: The Toshiba Pocket PC's have a USB and a Infrared interface to communicate with a Computer. Unfortunately, Microsoft Windows NT4.0 does not support USB nor Infrared. Windows NT supports a serial connection, but the serial interface is not available for the Pocket PC's e310,e330 and e740. Note: There is the possibility to synchronize a PDA over Network or Modem but the ActiveSync Software, which is responsible for the synchronization, will need a "first sync" to establish a "partnership" with the PDA. This "first sync" can only be done via USB.
