When I make a playlist for my Archos 504 on my laptop, and then select a song to play on the player, it plays it but won't stick to the playlist. It just moves onto a song from the general library. And when I try to open a PDF ebook on the player, it won't open at all.
Select the Show playlist menu item while you are in the Music
browser. A playlist panel will open on the right: you can now start
adding songs to the current playlist. In the left pane, locate the
songs you would like to add to your playlist. Highlight a song and
press or OK to add it to the playlist (the song’s icon in the left
panel will change to, indicating that it is part of the current
playlist). Repeat this operation with all the tracks you want.
You can also add the content of an entire folder, artist, album, etc. if you highlight it and press OK.
Another way to add songs to a playlist is by using the Add to playlist or Insert in playlist menu items:
Add to playlist - will add the highlighted track, folder, artist or album at the end of the playlist.
Insert in playlist - will insert the highlighted track, folder, artist or album before the selected item in the playlist.
Note: a playlist can have a maximum of 5000 songs.
You can use TextEdit application to Add/Delete/Move the mp3 song in the playlist.
For example the playlist file you just created has the default name untitled playlist.m3u and there are 2 songs included:
/Music/Danielle Davis/I'm Sorry.mp3
/Music/Danielle Davis/Outta My Dreams.mp3
If you want to Add another song from a different location (ex.
Slobberbone folder, song name: slippage.mp3), then you just need to
open the untitled playlist.mp3 file with TextEdit and add another line
to:
/Music/Wes Burden/ Brave New World/Brave New Wold.mp3
Save the untitled playlist.m3u file again and close. Next
time when the untitled playlist.m3u is opened, you will see that there
are four mp3 songs included.
Note: to delete a song in the playlist, simply delete the line which contains the title of the mp3 song.
If none works, Firmware update is an option.
Download the firmware from Archos Website.
Connect the device to the PC.
Go in “My Computer”, you should see “Archos 504/604”.
Copy/Paste the firmware downloaded on “Archos 504/604”
Disconnect the device safely. Go to Setup > System > Update Firmware.
You can also copy the firmware update file to the root of the
device, and select while browsing the hard drive content with the
“Browser”.
Hey

One moment..
The pdf reader on the archos 504 is really easy to use.
To open a pdf document, in the pdf document in the file browser and press ok.
simply copy your pdf file into the archos into a folder that you can easyly find when your using the file browser on the device.
you can find your user manual from
http://www.archos.com/support/support_te...
talking about the pdf reader in the page 35
is there anything else I can help you with or do you need more assistance with this or anything else? please let me know.
Thanks,
Ekse
Corrupt file? does it open on your desktop?
Also I would suggest performing a firmware update from the archos website.

Alot of times windows media player is not compatible with certain players. most often times you have to install an updat to the programing of your player. even though you can get most files to play without the update, you can't fully sync with device. if your having problems and don't think windows media is allowing the files to transfer, you can try other players such as rhapsody or jukebox. I have found that because of codec issues that jukebox is the best and i have always had good luck with it.
Load Windows Media Player.
Find the
CD you want to put onto your MP3 player.
Select
the "Copy from CD" tab in Windows Media Player.
Look at
the list of tracks that Windows Media Player displays for you.
Select
which tracks you want to convert to MP3 by ticking them.
Click
"Copy Music."
Wait
patiently for Windows Media Player to finish ripping your CD.
Connect
your Archos MP3 player.
Click on
the "Sync" tab.
Synchronize your device.
Right click the songs you required and save them to the play list.it will ask you where you want to save .it will give you the options.you can select it from the option.its simple.
pls do rate the solution
thanks.

Usually answered in minutes!
Sorry I don't understand the response I got. I would love some step by step instructions on adding a playlist from my laptop and adding pdf documents to my archos player. (just assume I'm stupid when you answer basically, I won't take offence!! lol)
Thanks but I know how to do it on the player itself. What I need to know is how to do it from my laptop. You know like dragging and dropping files from a folder on my laptop to the folders in my archos that come up when you attach it with a usb cable. which is what I did originally but it doesn't seem to play them as a playlist despite them being in a playlist folder.
I also transferred the pdf the same way, by dragging the file to the archos player window.
The main problem with my Archos 504 right now is getting a PDF ebook I bought onto it. I'm not sure
1. What folder to put it into when I drag the file from my computer to the device.
2. How to make the device read the pdf - do I need a converter of some kind or is it something to do with a license?
Any suggestions about the PDF ebook issues in my above details? Thanks
How do I do that?
Thanks Ekse but that's what I've been doing and although it shows up for selection under the browse section of the device, it won't open at all.
Yeah it opens fine on my desktop so it's def not corrupted. I checked for new firmware downloads and my current one is 1.5.55 and on the website it says this:
" Download Archos 504 OS v 1.6.53 (17638Kb)
Caution: For technical reasons, this release of the Operating System (OS) will not allow a downgrade.
If you feel you do not need the improvements brought by this release or want to be able to downgrade to a previously released version, then you should not upgrade your product with this release.
Be assured this was done purely out of necessity and not as an attempt to limit using previous OS versions."
Would you say I should download that or might it cause problems with my device?
Well there were several helpful suggestions and they work to an extent but I guess it's the sort of problem I need to show someone in person. Thanks for this solution, I'll try it.
I am still having trouble with making my Archos display PDF ebooks. I am hesitant to download the firmware update due to what the website says about it (I included that in one of my above comments)
