I believe you're having problem with the Operating System on your computer. Unfortunately, Lenovo will not provide a product key for the Operating System since the an OEM version. What you can do is reinstall the Operating System using the One Key Recovery Sofware or the Recovery Disc that came with the computer. Follow these steps for you to be able to reinstall the Operating System using the One Key Recovery.

1. Turn off the computer.

2. Press the little button near the power button, it usually do have a drawing of an icon that looks like a horse shoe or a headset.

3. There will be a window that will appear which do have three option, One Key Antivirus, One Key Recovery and System Setup. Choose One key Recovery.

4. There will be another window that will appear which do have two option, Restore from initial backup and Restore from user backup,Choose Restore from initial back up

5. It will asked you if you want to continue, Just click on OK or YES.

6. Once done, Reboot the computer.

For Recovery Disc,

1. Insert the disc inside the drive.

2. Turn off the computer then turn it back on and keep on tapping F12

3. There will a window that will appear which do have three options, HDD,ODD/DVD/CD, and NAT, choose ODD/DVD/CD

4. It will asked you to press any key immediately, you will need to press any key immediately so that it will boot from ODD.

5. It will asked you to choose a partition, choose Disc 0 partition 1

6. Reboot computer once done.

Will not boot to windows xp

There is a cost free remedy you can use if your hard drive will not boot up, or when you have a BLACK SCREEN. This radical resetting of the computer is called a system recovery (not a system restore) This will put your computer back to factory settings but you will lose any files on your Hard Drive like pictures, music and word documents.

1. THIS IS HOW IT WORKS :Some older computers and ALL Toshiba laptops come with a system restore disk. Simply place the disk in the CD tray and hit ENTER, if that does not work, power the computer off and on with the disk in the tray, wait for the special system recovery screen to appear, (be patient)

2. If you were not issued with a disk, then the following is for you.
Each computer manufacturer has a special key you have to hit WHEN YOU POWER ON the computer.
HP and Compaq desktops/towers/laptops F11, E Machines and Gateway F11,
Sony PC/laptop F11, IBM and Lenovo towers and laptops all use F11 function key for system recovery.
Dell laptop use Ctr + F11
Acer and TRAVELMATE Laptop Alt + F10
Toshiba laptop F12

3. Here is the trick- power the computer off, and then power it back on and start tapping the appropriate key eg F11 until a screen pops up saying "DO YOU WANT TO DO A SYSTEM RESTORE" OR "WELCOME TO SYSTEM RECOVERY MANAGER" Once you see something appear on the screen, stop tapping and just follow the instructions. Some of the older computers may ask you for the restore disks so have those ready. Most newer computers do not need restore discs. The whole system restore could take 2 or 3 hours. When done, reboot your computer and it should be all new and speedy again.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya.

My Lenovo ideapad z565 with Windows 7 does not boot after the Windows logo appears. How can I restore it to it's factory settings by using the onekey recovery (F11)? I already did that but nothing...

For you to perform One Key Recovery, it is done by pressing the OKR button next to power button when the computer is off..(OKR or One key recovery is a very small button usually next/ near the power button that has an inverted U-shaped arrow and usually, some models, the color is orange button)..Select "One key recovery" from the options and next, select "Restore from Initial Back up" after that, you may select "start" to perform OKR..
Just in case OKR button is no longer working, you may ask for the recovery CD's from lenovo to manually install windows.

to reset computer to factory out of theb box state on a toshiba is the number 0 on the key board, which you turn off computer and hold that button down until you see the logo of laptop and release and it will ask you of a out of box state ,make sure if you do try this do a backup of data on disk, and then try not sure wheather this will work, only try if wanting to reset today, but what i would suggest to you if you ring the lenovo support number you then ask for a way to set to out of box state or factory state and they will be able to help you with their brand for resetting it is easy and they are helpful with giving this information ,if they ask why, just let them know that its either a virus or something which is causing it to not load properly.hope this hepls.id wait to get that reset key as i know it works for toshiba.

How do i restore my lenovi G550 to factory settings without a cd? the laptop is installed with windows 7

Hi,

All you need to do is removed the battery and unplugged the charger then press and hold the power button for 15 seconds then connect the laptop directly to the power outlet without using the battery just for the meantime then press the little button near the power button which has a drawing of an arrow going to the lef or soing down like a horseshoe or headset, press that button then you will see there One Key Recovery, choose that one then choose restore from factory default, then choose restore from initial back up then click OK and Start, that will restore your computer from the factory default, if this button doesnt work, contact lenovo to asked for a cd, its free and you just have to pay for the shipping which is $10.

Hope this will help...

I dont know how to start the process of restoring factory settings on my laptop which is a - packard bell easynote r1005 - i cant seem to find the keys to start the ball rolling for a reset and i really...

To restore factory settings the process comes in 3 flavours from the factory. One way has a hidden parition on the hard drive. When you boot up you press and hold the F11 key (may be differ on yours) and it starts the pacardbell recovery manager. This should give you the options to save off documents and settings but will wipe out the windows directory and everything under it so don't save it there. It will give you a few other options on what to save or install. This can take it back to factory new but save your stuff. The next method next two actually are booting off of the recovery dvd/cd. You may have gotten one wit the unit or were expected to make one when you got it. This tends to be a bit more agressive when restoring and usually wipes out everything on C drive. Some versions will have the option of just doing the windows directory but don't count on it. The usual problem with the dvd's is that the drive won;t read them. The last option is to just use a windows install cd. You do have a valid windows serial number so as long as you match the type it should work. Sometimes you may need to find a OEM version to get the serial to work.

You sould be able to use the boot/F11 method. As long as the os isn't Vista that usually works just fine. Vista installs had errors.
