Canon PowerShot A720 IS Digital Camera Logo

My camera won't flash no matter how many new batteries I put in it. It will take pictures that don't require a flash. I've reset everything twice and nothing has worked. Contacts are clean. When I depress the button, I get the flashing symbol blinking in the upper right hand corner of the screen and yet no flash. Any suggestions?

Some Canon cameras use some of the screws around the perimeter of the camera to serve as a safety switch to prevent activation of the flash if the case is opened. See this article for more info.

I was skeptical about this fix at first, but as per Mary's solution, I removed the 6 screws to the housing, eased the back and front plastic off, removed the plastic flash assembly shield screw. There, above the screen, you'll find a green and white ribbon cable.I carefully pushed them back into their seats and voila! The flash that used to only give me a blinking lightning bolt now works again after a 10 minute fix.Thank you! My camera won't flash no matter how many new - ee25d4ed-a4c0-4894-a734-0022c4fb7446.jpg

I accidentally dropped my samsung S1070 while I was taking a photo, and the lens is now stuck out. It won't turn on, and we've tried replacing the batteries and taking them out. I've also tried...

Hi,

Check whether your batteries are actually making contact with the battery posts, and that these posts are clean. If not, bend the posts up/down a little, and maybe clean them with a little rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip.The next thing to try is examine both the battery and flash card door. There's usually a little switch on both doors (note some SD card doors do not have this switch) that activates when the doors are closed. If they don't, the camera won't start to prevent damage to the flash card or camera startup sequence. For most cameras its usually a little piece of plastic on the door that pushes in on a pin switch when the door is closed. Closely examine both doors to try to identify these switches. A lot of times that little plastic nib wears down or breaks off, but can easily be jury rigged with a small glued-on replacement.
If you've tried all of the above and still no luck, the problem is then likely to be internal to the camera. One example would be that if your camera uses Compact Flash, check to make sure all pins are present and aligned in the card slot (if bent, simply unbend/straighten them with a skinny "jewelers" screwdriver, then insert the flash card for final realignment).

Thank you!

I have had my camera for 3 years but never had bought a memory card for it. I recently purchased one from Walmart. When i put the memory card in the digital display almost gets stuck and won't open so...

The camera takes SD cards up to 2GB (not SDHC cards). If you've been taking pictures using the camera's internal memory, you must first get rid of those pics. With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" and follow the on-screen instructions. Then, insert your new card and go through the "format" routine again to prepare the new card.

My Nikon Coolpix s230 flash won't work. It just blinks red in the lower right hand corner. I've tried all the settings and they all won't flash.

If there is a problem with the flash itself or the mainboard connection to the flash it will not charge. If the flash won't charge then it won't go off when you take a picture. The only way to fix the problem is to replace the flash with a good used one and see if that fixes it. If not, then you need to replace the mainboard. Good used parts can usually be found online for cheap; that auction website doesn't pay me to type their name, so I don't, sorry. Hope this helps!

Nikon Coolpix L110 camera was bought for me for Christmas 2010. Worked fine at first, but now seems to be having problems. Batteries don't last. I just bought new batteries in Feb/March this year...

You have to charge the batteries for nearly 8-10 hours. Brand new batteries also require a full recharge of 8-10 hours. Not only making sure the batteries are charged, have you changed the battery in the menu under type of batteries.

When transfering pictures from camera to PC EasyShare will not transfer some pictures. "picture already exists" in My Collection. These are all new pictures taken with blank memory card. This occurs even...

Scrap the camera! Kodak hasn't and won't address the problem. Most picture download software won't recognize the camera. The only solution is to remove the memory card from the camera, put it in USB adapter and treat it like a flash drive. Cumbersome. Awkward. Stupid. After you scrap the ****, tell your friends so they don't make the mistake of buying a Kodak.
