Hi Ronald,

If it starts by jumping the solenoid, then replace the solenoid.
If this does not do it, please reply back.

Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate your vote. Thanks,

Handie Andie

Parking brake, lawnmower won't start.

  1. Out of GAS: It sounds crazy, but it happens!
Make sure you check your fuel level each time before you fire up your mower.
  2. Stale Gas Leads to Clogged Carburetor: How long ago did you fill up your gas tank? And how old was the gas you used?
Gas only has a shelf life of about 30 days because of the ethanol it contains. If you have old gas in your tank, the ethanol may have caused corrosion and clogged your carburetor.
  3. Clogged fuel filter: The purpose of the fuel filter is to filter out all of the sediment from the gasoline.
This filter can get clogged up from normal sediment, or from stale gas containing ethanol.
The lack of proper fuel flow to the carburetor will prevent your mower from starting.
If this is the case, the fuel filter will need to be replaced.
  4. Dead Battery: Batteries typically last a long time, but there isn't always a warning sign that it is going dead. Check your battery with a voltmeter to see if it's lacking juice.
If you have a 12V battery, the voltage should read very close to 12V. If it's less, your battery may not have enough juice to start the mower.
  5. BAD STARTER SOLENOID: If you turn the key in your ignition, and hear a clicking sound, it is probably your starter solenoid.
If you notice this clicking, your best bet is to install a new starter solenoid.
  6. DISCONNECTED DIRTY SPARK PLUG: Did you recently perform maintenance? Maybe you left your spark plug wire un-hooked! Be sure to check this out, this is a quick and simple fix.
Your spark plug could also be dirty or damaged. Spark plugs are cheap, so try replacing your spark plug.

I have a 1992 70hp Johnson boat motor and I;m getting no fire to the starter, how do I trace the problem?

Make sure your battery is GOOD and holding 12+ volts!
..You have a hot wire from the battery to the solenoid. You should have 12v at that terminal. Use a multimeter - set to 12+dc volts and check the voltage.. + on the solenoid terminal and (-) negative to ground. If you are getting 12volts to the solenoid, and its not starting.. you need to check for a bad solenoid.

BE CAREFUL.. SPARKS WILL FLY WHEN YOU JUMP A SOLENOID...

GAS OR GAS FUMES WILL EXPLODE!!

You need to "jump" the solenoid,, you can use a decent side srcew driver to connect the two large threaded studs(terminals) on the solenoid. when you connect them (sparks will fly - be careful - have a fire extinguisher handy). the motor should turn over! If it does turn over - get a new solenoid, if it does NOt turn over you need to trace voltage back to the battery.. A bad battery could show 12 volts and ALMOST ZERO amperage.. not enough to even make the engine do anything...
Do all this and repost.

What would cause a husqvarna YTH2448T to not start. I have checked the fuse, its good . it turns over when I jump the solenoid.

It takes 2 things to make it run. Spark, and fuel. Jumping the solenoid will not guarantee spark at the plug. I suggest that you pull a spark plug, turn the ignition on, and spin the motor over while checking for a spark from the plug lead. If you have spark, make sure the plug is in good condition and re-install it. Don't forget to connect the plug wire.
Next check for fuel. Is there a valve that is turned off? Sometimes these motors need priming, especially if they have been sitting for a while. Pull the air filter and give it a shot of starter fluid (or a VERY small amount of gas) and try to start it. Odds are if you have spark and gas you'll be cutting grass in no time.

Engine won't turn. Have checked battery, starter, solenoid

The float needle in the carburetor is not closing which will allow gas to keep filling up into the cylinder and compression is blowing it up to the air filter.
There could be dirt or a build up ring around the needle of a jelly like material from sitting through the winter or just a build up over a long time
Cleaning the float needle may work but a new one is better

Stored over winter. New battery fresh fuel wont start. Doesnt seem 2 be a spark peugeot speedfight 2 03. Any advice thanks clive

When gas sits it will, turn to a gel to make it simple. this can block the very small holes in the carb. There is a very simple way to check if the motor will run without taken everything apart. remove the air filter, get yourself a can of carb spray, brake cleaner, or wd-40. Open the throttle the whole way and spary which ever one you choose to use into the air intake let the throttle go and try to start the motor. if it starts then you know you have a fuel problem. If not then the next thing to check is the spark plug, remove the spark plug from the motor, place the spark plug cap back on the spark plug put the spark plug on the motor and spin the motor with the starter and see if you get spark. If you go you know that you have a fuel issue. check this out and lme know what you find if you need help with cleaning the carb let me know.

Sprayed down lawnmower with water, now it won't start. I decided to "wash" the lawnmower last week and now it won't start. And the really weird part is the solenoid clicks every minute...

Engine will not run with no spark or a weak spark. Continuity test will only reveal that the winding is not open, not if you are producing a weak spark that will not jump the spark plug gap.

Bike won't turn all the way over

Check if the spark plugs are getting sparks and check too if they are wet with gas.

Won't start,motor won't turn over.have checked battery,not battery.

i am assuming that it has gas in it and that it is attempting to start, but just not starting, so the next two things i would check would be the fuel filter and the spark plug. check the spark plug by 1) removing it from the engine, 2) reconnecting the plug wire to the plug, 3) grounding it against a metal part of the mower, 4) have a helper try to start the mower while you look for sparks coming from the plug. if it doesnt spark the plug's prob bad. if the plug is good then try replacing the fuel filter (they are cheap)

if it doesnt even attempt to start(starter isnt turning) its prob the starter solenoid.

Won't start, just clicks

I'm not familiar with this Toro Model, but that click sound probably is the starter solenoid engaging. Have you checked the wiring from the battery to the solenoid and from the solenoid to the starter? Also, check the ground connection on the mower frame.
You may have a bad starter motor. You can by-pass the solenoid by - placing a heavy gauge wire from the POSITIVE battery terminal directly to the STARTER terminal, where the heavy wire is attached. Be careful NOT to ground out the wire from the battery.
If the starter turns - it's a bad solenoid. If it does not turn - it probably is a bad starter motor.

My car wont start after replacing spark plugs

Check that you have pushed the spark plug wires fully home on the spark plug. If it's not turning it could be the solenoid that connects the battery to the starter motor when trying to start or simply a flat battery. Check battery first, check solenoid by listening to a click sound, check starter motor for connections check any related fuses.
