As an artist,& not a photographer, I purchased this camera to record my artwork. My only fault which is my own, I cannot turn off the date which is intrusive on my images. I can't seem to find it in the directions. I realize I'm not savvy with it & would start to utilize it more often without the date showing. Can anyone give me a clue how to do this? Thanks...Rose

If you have the Owner's Manual, the instructions are on pages 33 and 44.
..........
Make sure that the Mode switch on top of the camera is set to "Still".
Use the menu to select "Effect".
Then select "Date/Time".
Then select "OFF"

You will get sound when you transfer recorded movie clips in your computer and playback in computer.
DSC-S500 Sony Cybershot has built-in mic to record sound but doesn't have speaker to give sound during playback in camera. You need to import movie files in your PC and playback in PC to hear sound.
I had the same problem with my camera. I found that changing the mode from Multi Burst to Normal allows the camera to take normal pictures. Go to Menu and scroll over to Mode, then select Normal.
