Brought a sony vaio NS series notebook that all of the writing is in japanese need to get it to english or change to default settings

Question edited for clarity and 'make, series, model and number' in correct order.

My searches lead me to believe that you have a model that was made for the Japanese home market and only comes in Japanese. The advert for it is in Japanese. No English Manual listed.

There are a few models like this. Sometimes they can be changed by executing a Firmware Update. Write to Pioneer in Japan. Write in Japanese first and in English below. Be very polite, they like that.

The standard keyboard language and widely used setting is "ENGLISH (US)"
Set the Keyboard layout to English US so that you have standard keys for symbols etc. like @ sign with SHIFT+2 etc.

The keyboard layout / Language of your PC may have been different (other than English US), so follow these steps to select the International keyboard layout:

- Go to Control Panel - Regional and Language settings
- On the Keyboards and Language tab, click Change keyboards.
- Click Add.
- Expand the language that you want. For example, English (United States).
- Expand Keyboard list, select the United States-International check box, and then click OK.
- In the Default input language list, click Language name - United States-International (where Language name is the language that you selected in step 4), and then click OK two times.
- In the Regional and Language Options dialog box, click OK.



The above steps would change the Keyboard Layout settings to 'English US' and you would be able to type @ sign with SHIFT+2

I bought a camera in Japan (Sony Cybershot DSC-WX1) and now it seems that i can't change the language from japanese to english. If i select (can't read it but with the help of the english digital guide i think i have the right menu)change language, there seems to be only one language available. -japanese- How do I solve this?

My advice is since you just brought new sony vaio ns laptop then please contact your supplier or store you buy the laptop then let them fix it for you since you still have the warranty period covered since you buy it from them. So to avoid the void of yourwarranty from your laptop then please return it to the supplier or to the store where you buy.

Sounds to me like your hard drive is going bad if disk errors are starting to be reported.

Try restoring the laptop back to factory defaults. Reason for this is because if your hard drive is good and your operating system is corrupt then this would fix the problem with the OS.

If your hard drive is bad then it won't restore back to factory defaults cause it will error out on you and you'll know at that point that the hard drive is bad cause it has bad sectors on it that it cant write to.

You can try first to go to your Control Panel and to REgional Settings and change your language to English. If that doesn't work you will need to resintall the Operating System and select "English". When you put the CD in you will be prompted to reinstall or repair. Depending on your OS, you can try repair and then you should go through the prompts to select English.

You can change from japanese version to English version without any issues. Also you need to download and install the drivers (can be obtained from Sony website) for English version of XP after installing the same.

Researched this extensively. you cannot change the camera to english. sony camera's bought in japan (or from the internet from japanese suppliers are not multi language. they supply a japanese version and an international version. the japanese version is cheaper (nationalistic thing). there is no firmware either to upgrade it. best thing to do is download the manual and become familiar with it.

you need the english.mui goto microsoft website and get all info on this one but be prepared to reinstall windows vista in english as all programs will be in japanese get all programs for laptop first then do it I've searched on web about the vista but not much luck. good luck on this one.
