I have downloaded the latest firmware in the RCA TH1602-A and my computer still does not recognize it. the MP3 player is showing USB connected in the screen. while upgrading it erased all the media on the player. I have tried the trouble shooting and it is frozen on USB connected. I have taken the battery out and held play down and it is showing that it is upgraded but the player will not initialize.

I did what you suggested and put in a different USB port it still did not read it. When I had it on yesterday it showed that the firmware had been updated. There are no yellow exclamation marks. Now it want even install automatically so I went in under Windows Explorer to install and it tries to install then a message comes up that says minimum system requirements. No. 1 supported operating system: passed, 2 Internet Explorer: failed, 3. Windows Media Player: Passed. When I hit OK button it goes to another screen that says click on link below to download the latest version. Please install a version of Internet Explorer between 6 & 8 before attempting to install player. I have done this and it still says Internet Explorer failed. The player turns off when connected to the PC it does not show anything. I have been working on this for a week and now all my songs have been deleted. Please help.

Hello.

Try inserting it into a diferrent USB slot or if possible into a different computer. If you are still having the same problem, check the device manager and look for any yellow exclamation point (!). If you see a (!) in the Universal Serial Bus controllers, right click on it, then uninstall it. Restart your computer and then try again.

Does your mp3 player show any error code?

Update me if you are still having problems.

What is the version of the Internet Explorer you are using? Try making Internet Explorer as your "default browser". To do that, open you Inter Explorer, click Internet Options, then click the "Connection Tab" and then click "Make Default".

My computer wont detect the mp3 and connect

Is the player working normally otherwise?

If so, then try the player in a different USB port on your computer. When plugged in, the display of the Pearl should say that it is connected to a USB device and it will show up automatically as a removable external drive in your windows explorer.

If not, then upgrade the firmware in the unit and the computer will recognize it again. Download the firmware upgradefrom http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1, and follow all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when you start the program:

start the program,
remove the battery,
hold the play button while plugging into usb,
release the play button the the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
check the box that says "format data" (you can try it first without this checked, it may work and will save your music),
click the start button to replace the firmware.

After I did this, my pearl started normally, and my computer recognized it again.

Try a firmware recover. Download the firmware update from the RCA website and install the app. Start the updater and connect the player holding the PLAY button until it gets detected.
This is a similar player with the recovery procedure explained:

RCA pearl th1602-a with new battery will not power on. Old battery will power on, but freeze at pearl logo. Player powers on when plugged into USB of computer. It is already at the latest firmware.

When was the last time you flashed the firmware? Even if it already has the latest firmware, it sounds like it is still corrupted and need to be reflashed. It appears you already know where to find the latest firmware update based on your comments, but just in case you can download it here:

My rca mp3 player is not recognized by my computer.

When my computer wouldn't recognize my Pearl, these are the steps I followed after downloading the firmware upgrade from http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1

remove the battery,
start the program,
hold the play button while plugging into usb,
release the play button the the term "initializing" replaces "searching",
click the start button to replace the firmware.

You might want to try leaving the "format data" box unchecked the first time. If that doesn't work and allow you to backup your music, bite the bullet and format the data area.

After I did this, my pearl started normally, and my computer recognized it again. It also fixed my aac-error problem.

Computer not recongize the rca th1602 mp3 player

The first time I tried to restore the firmware in my Pearl it would not recognize it. I had to follow all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when you run the software. Basically, try taking the battery out and waiting 10 seconds or so. Run the software and read all the instructions at the bottom of the popup window. then hold the play button, plug your player in, and keep holding that button until the software recognizes it. It works.

When i put mp3 player on the computer it wont come up

If device not recognized at all:
Try removing the battery, insert Pearl WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY PRESSING and HOLDING the "PLAY" button. Windows Device Manager should see the device under "Human Interface Devices"as a "USB Human Interface Device". Run the latest firmware update, it will see the HID device and initialize it as a "Disk Drive", "_Generic MSC Recovery USB Device". Once the firmware update is complete the Pearl should work again. The trick was to remove the battery and hold down the "Play" button while inserting to force recovery mode.
