A friend of mine has that camera and every now and then the whole memory card seems to be whipped out for no reason. She's tried 2 different sanDisk memory cards with the camera and this happens on both. She knows enough not to accidentally erase all the images herself and claim that they've been whiped.... I'm just wondering, is there a known issue like this with Pentax Optio S40 where the camera might corrupt the SD card? (NOTE: when this happens the SD card shows completely empty, no images or any other files in it, however if you try to take a picture the camera says that the card is full)
I've never had my S40 "wipe" any of my SD cards, but I have had it not recognize the card as readable when I first insert it. Every time that has happened, reinserting the card once or twice has solved the problem.

Somewhere I read to be careful using cardreaders, using your memory card in different camera's and managing your card via the computer. Appearantly all of these can corrupt your card. The advice is to hook your camera directly up to your computer to transfer images and perhaps it is wise to erase images through the camera's menu instead of via the transfer program of the computer. Try formatting the card using the camera's menu and see if the problem persists.
