S40 JPEG Problems

I just purchased the Optio S40 from BJ's for my wife to play with. I own a Canon G3 and Panasonic I have some experience in digital photography. My computer has a built in card reader which works flawlessly with the other two cameras but it will not read the jpeg files from the Pentax. It says file name too short etc. I have Photoshop CS in Windows XP. Help!!! Help!!! IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!! Has anyone out there ever heard of such a problem.

I haven't had this particular problem before, but I have had a similar one. For some reason, my card reader couldn't read beyond 256MB. The solution was to download the photos from the camera to the computer until I bought a card reader that worked better. Photoshop Elements gave me a similar error to your's, but I don't remember the exact message. Some things that I would try in order to isolate the problem: Can you review the photos using the camera? Can you view the photos on the computer using something other than PCS? (Like...thumbnail preview in Windows XP or the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer) Does this problem occur when you use the camera to transfer the photos? Does this problem occur when you use a different card reader? Does this problem occur when you use a different computer? If you are using a large SD card, does this happen when you use a smaller capacity card? This would get you on the right track to figure out if it is the camera, card reader, or software that is giving you the trouble.

Trying to download pictures from my canon g3 not sure where the settings should be as in video system under tools which shows pal or ntsc and under communication either normal or ptp? tried different...

Page 157 of the User manual tells you about this. The video system settings are for connection to a TV and can be ignored. You should set the communication to "Normal" if you have installed the Canon G3 USB driver software on your PC. If you have not then communication needs to be set to "ptp". Note that certain file types cannot be transferred in the latter mode. It is best to keep the images as JPEG.

Howmuch gb on sd for panasonic dmc fz20. thanks

DO NOT go for 4GB and beyond. I had purchased a 4GB SD Card but my DMCFZ20 camera did not support it. It has worked fine with 2 GB.
